Balthazor Benefit at Lee’s Foods

A Brat ‘N Burger benefit for Jeff Balthazor, 28, who was diagnosed with Guillan-Barre Syndrome on July 17 will be held at Lee’s Family Foods in Peshtigo on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Menominee High School graduate resides in Oconto.

Paralyzed from the neck down, he spent two weeks in the ICU and one week in the IMCU and is currently a patient in the rehabilitation area of St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay. He is expected to be there until the end of October and then faces another eight months of rehabilitation.

Grover Porterfield FD Open House is Sept. 20

The Grover-Porterfield Fire Department will hold an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 20 at the Harmony Station, N3895 S. Harmony Rd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine. Lunch will be provided.

Included at the open house will be Valley Flight Med Helicopter flying in at 10:30 a.m. and leaving at approximately 11:30 a.m., a burning room simulation, bake sale by the Women’s Auxiliary, kids activity corner and large firetruck bounce house.

Coleman Legion Flag Disposal Ceremony Sept. 27

The Kalbes-Seewald American Legion Post 280 of Coleman invite the public to their annual flag disposal ceremony to be held at the Coleman Legion Hall at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27. A potluck chicken dinner and raffles will follow. Winning tickets will be drawn for the gun raffle, autographed Packer football and the auxiliary quilt.

Worn out flags have been collected over the year and flags can still be dropped off at Pelkins Piggly Wiggly, Ace Hardware and the Coleman Shell Station. New flags are available for purchase from the Legion...

VA to Hold POW/MIA Recognition Day Sept. 19

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain will hold a National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19 at Pine Grove Country Club. The public is welcome to attend. The ceremony will pay tribute to America's former prisoners of war who live in the area and those killed or still missing in action.
