Three New Trails For Hikers, Bikers In Wisconsin

Hikers and bicyclists have additional trails to explore in Wisconsin this summer and fall with the opening of three new trails this summer.

In July, an 8-mile paved trail was completed through the Northern Highland-American Legion State Forest connecting the communities of Manitowish Waters and Boulder Junction. With the completion of this section the paved trail system in Vilas County stretches for approximately 45 miles, running almost to Eagle River. Deer Advisory Councils Provide Opportunity For Local Input

Planning for the 2015 deer hunting season is underway, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin Conservation Congress encourage anyone interested in discussing their local deer herd to attend a County Deer Advisory Council meeting this fall.

Each CDAC will meet in September, October, and December to determine a three-year deer population goal of increase, decrease, or stabilize.

Ardent Fisherman Objects To Proposed Pan Fish Rules

Former Peshtigo Mayor Al Krizenesky, who is known to fish and fish, reported he is opposed to new pan fish regulations as proposed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

He has written a letter to Steve Hewett, DNR Fisheries Section Chief, listing his reasons for opposition to the proposed new rules. “ I for one believe the DNR should leave panfishing alone. Keep the rules as they are.” Krizenesky told the Peshtigo Times.

Town of Peshtigo Fire Dept. Hosts Golf Outing Sept. 12

Town of Peshtigo Fire Chief Mike Folgert reminded everyone at the monthly town board meeting Tuesday, Aug. 19 that the department’s annual Golf Outing fund raiser will be Friday, Sept. 12 at Little River Country Club. He said they hope to raise enough money to buy a defibrillator and some new face masks.
