Advent Is Here...

If all the rain that fell in the month of November had been snow we'd be buried beyond the rooftops. But it didn't, and that saved taxpayers a great deal of money because roads did not need to be plowed, and a great many backaches because snow did not need to be shoveled.

Just hope December doesn't turn out to be a snowy version of November. A good packing snow on Dec. 23 would be a nice touch. If weather were made to order, once the roads were plowed after that snow days and nights would sta...

Lessons Learned

By Jane Thibodeau Martin,

I follow from a distance the discussions about a mine that is in the permitting process for the Upper Peninsula. Happy Thanksgiving...

Winter blew in over the weekend. Literally. They weren't kidding about the 40 mile per hour winds. Luckily, they were wrong about any amounts of snow, but understand up in the UP there was plenty. Senator Ron Johnson and Congress Reid Ribble introduced the State Wolf Population Management Bill (S.2281) with language removing the gray wolf from the Endangered Specie...

Shopping Now and Then

By Jane Thibodeau Martin

I simply refuse to have anything to do with Black Friday or Thanksgiving weekend shopping. To me it's just a great way to kill the joy of Thanksgiving itself. Knowing that I would be avoiding all retail locations except the feed mill (which is usually safe) the weekend after Thanksgiving, I sallied forth this past Friday morning early to do the necessary shopping for the week and Thanksgiving holiday needs. I was feeling smug that since I am retired, I could beat t...
