THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Darrel Strabel, 52, of Oconto Falls passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, after a long battle with cancer.
Born in Milwaukee on Feb. 13, 1956, to the late Swede and Beverly Westrich, he was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. On Jan. 1, 1995, he married Sherrie Pluger-Dakins in Oconto Falls. He worked at the Green Bay Correctional Institution for 24 years as a Correctional Officer and enjoyed camping with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrie; five children, Jamie Stoner of Waukesha, Andrew Strabel of Milwaukee, Brandon (Megan) Dakins of Oconto and Dustin Dakins and Mitchell Dakins, both of Oconto Falls; four grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters, Dennis Strabel, Mrs. Dan (Donna) Polasek, Doug (Sue) Strabel, Mrs. Jeff (Julie) Bollis, Jerry (Sue) Strabel, Janis Dean and James Westrich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family greeted relatives and friends from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Jan. 24, at Rhodes-Charapata Funeral Home, Oconto. A memorial service followed at noon on Saturday at the Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Learman officiating. Military Rites followed by the Jones-Modrow-Young American Legion Post #74.
