I would like to draw some positive attention to Congressman Steve Kagen for his support of the Employee Free Choice Act.
One of the smear tactics that the Big Business lobbies have used in their fight to prevent workers from having the freedom to form unions has been to drum up fear that union supporters are thugs who will threaten and intimidate their coworkers into joining unions. This just doesn’t stand up to the facts.
In 2005 alone, over 31,358 cases filed under the National Labor Relations Act found evidence of employers harassing, intimidating and firing workers for supporting a union. Since 1935, the government only found 42 cases with evidence of such harassment on the part of workers and their unions. Who is really bullying whom?
Steve Kagen has seen through the corporate lobbying tactics and is cosponsoring the Employee Free Choice Act. For this reason, I am proud to live in Kagen’s district.

In April 2008, Colleen Haberl announced the formation of a new organization called “Vision Companions for Teens” (VCFT) in an interview with a news media. Their attorney, James Lewis, stated that it is the same 501(c)3 just a new name.
Go on-line to “visioncompanionsforteens.org” to get a look at the website. There is not much substance to the site, but the “fund raising” page is working. Also notice that questions about fund raising, donors or financial information all fall under a “security and privacy” policy. Also there are cute puppy pictures, again, with smiling families. Still there is no school. Will these puppies, age out, once again?
According to on-line resources, Haberl, as VCTF President, has declared that there was NO financial carry-over from the Quinn Haberl Foundation in the new organization plan. So, where has the money gone? Supposedly, she is going to be working with NWTC, Advance Business Assistance Center, and the Lions Club for a training center at NWTC.
Why haven’t some of the grant donors requested a refund of the money if the grant parameters have not been met?
If the Haberls have nothing to hide, why is everything a secret?

Re: Thank You for Military Send Off
How does one say “thank you” for the outpouring of support shown to our troops being deployed to Iraq. The community support and generosity from local businesses, organizations, churches, students, teachers and administration from the four high schools, County and State Officials, and private citizens was beyond my expectations. The remarkable people of our communities truly know the meaning of “pulling together” and to lend a helping hand.
Let us all take the challenge from Captain Nathan Olson, of the National Guard, who asked that during the deployment where our troops are giving 100% of their time to this mission, let the rest of us give 10% in volunteerism to make their communities better for when they return.
Please know how much your presence and support was appreciated during the past weeks. An act of goodness is of itself an act of happiness. No reward coming after the event can compare with the reward that went with it.
