Niagara Area Medical Society Lists Scholarshp Awards
Niagara--Five students have been awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Niagara Area Medical Society. It will assist area youth in pursuing a career in any medical field. The 2009 scholarships were awarded to:
* Allyson Furst, senior at Goodman-Armstrong High School, who has been accepted for admission at Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee to pursue a medical career in nursing.
* Ashley A. Schiefelbein, senior at Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine High School, who has been accepted for admission at Lakeland College in Sheboygan to pursue a medical career in nursing.
* Shakeal B. Seidel, senior at Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine High School, who has been accepted at UW-Green Bay to study for a medical career as a doctor of dental surgery.
* Erin Comer, senior at Niagara High School, has been accepted at Northern Michigan University in Marquette, to pursue a medical degree in a medical laboratory or go on to pharmacy school.
* Jamie Vandenberg, senior at Niagara High School, will attend the University of Minnesota, in Minneapolis, to pursue a degree in kinesiology and a career as a physician.
The selections are made by the Niagara Area Medical Society Board of Directors Scholarship Committee to promote future medical care providers.
Criteria utilized for the scholarships include no class rank requirement, copy of a letter of acceptance from a vocational school or college is included with the letter of application, applicant's character and citizenship will be considered and the student should designate in writing, his/her future educational and career plans/goals.
All scholarship applications are due by April 15 of each calendar year.
