Funeral services for Anthony “Tony” Gaudes, 93, of Kingsford, Mi. were held on Sunday, July 5 at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine.
Messar Funeral Home, of Wausaukee assisted the family. He died Thursday, July 2 at Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mi.
The son of Frank and Antonia (Squartria) Gaudes was born March 7, 1916 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada and moved to Milwaukee as a young child.
He and his four brothers earned the distinction of all being Golden Gloves boxing champions. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On June 21, 1941 he married the former Delores “Terry” DuBrow and she preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 1978. He was employed at Allis Chalmers Co. in Milwaukee for 38 years and in 1975 moved to Dunbar. Prior to his death he lived for several years at Evergreen Apartments Assisted Living in Kingsford, Mi. He had many friends there and was an avid cribbage player.
Among survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Chuck (Susanne) Schmidt of Pembine; a son, Michael (Heather) of Milwaukee; three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
