
Theodore Hover Theodore “Ted” Hover, 91, of Norway, Mi. died Tuesday, Aug. 18 at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility in Powers, Mi.
He was born on June 5, 1918, in Goodman to the late Thaddeus and Clara (Jendryka) Hover. He grew up in the Kingsford and Iron Mountain area and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1936.
He joined the CCC for a brief period of time before moving to Chicago, where he learned to become a glazier. He served in the United States Navy’s 1st. Construction Battalion (Sea Bees) during World War II from 1941 to 1945 and was stationed in the South Pacific Islands. He returned to Chicago and became a co-owner in the Austin Glass and Mirror Co. for approximately 30 years.
He fulfilled a dream when he obtained his pilot’s license and became owner of a four passenger Cessna. He enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, pheasant hunting in the Dakotas and trips to his camp in Channing.
After retiring, he spent the winter months in Florida and summers between his home at Light Lake in Amas and his home in Chicago, which was his main residence for 42 years. He married the former Dorothy Mcglamary on Nov. 8, 1979, and the couple resided in Norway. She preceded him in death on Dec. 1, 1999.
He is survived by three sisters, Leona Harwath of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Clarence (Dorothy) Lindeman and Delores Secrist, both of Niagara; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ron (Sally) Hammerschlag of Hubertus and her children, Andrew (Monica Puder) Trevarthen of Milwaukee and Amy Trevarthen of Hubertus; nieces, Mrs. Dick (Darlene) Simonavich of Rockford, Mrs. Kurt (Sherry) Larson of Spread Eagle, Gaylynn Secrist of Hawaii, Mrs. Telly (DeeAnn) Montanez of Draper, Utah and Sandy VanMarter of Kingsford; nephews, Frank (Nancy) Harwath of Rockford, Dr. Gary (Carol) Lindeman of Madison and Edward (Ida) Secrist of Kingsford; along with great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Claire Ann; two brothers, Walter and Bernard; a nephew, Larry Secrist and brothers-in-law, Frank Harwath and Edward Secrist.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Aug. 21 at 4 p.m. at the Ortman Funeral Home with Deacon Ron LeMire presiding. Interment was at Norway Township Cemetery.
