David Lloyd Callow David Lloyd Callow, 57, a life long resident of Menominee, died Thursday, Sept. 17 at his home surrounded by family and friends.
Born March 23, 1952 in Menominee to Douglas and Muriel Callow, he graduated from Menominee High School in 1970 and then went on to attend NWTC, receiving a diploma in Auto Mechanics.
He furthered his education at Northern Michigan University earning an Associate Degree in Technology in 1974. On Oct. 18, 1975 he married the former Bonnie Perkins. After graduation from NMU, he worked for Larry Roetzer at Larry’s Alignment in Menominee and then for many years for Automotive Supply in Menominee and Oconto. For the past 17 years he was employed by Karl Schmidt Unisia holding many positions, the last of which was that of Maintenance Expeditor. While working at KUS, he also worked part-time at Checkers Automotive for eight years.
He had a passion for muscle cars and street rods and was one of the founding board members of the Interstate Stock and Custom Car Club. Even though his dream would go unfulfilled, he spoke often of street rodding a 1937 Ford. He enjoyed music and was a self taught guitarist. He had a love for animals, especially horses and enjoyed the many years that he attended the “Celebration” in Shelbyville, Tenn.
Through many years of physical challenges, including muscular dystrophy and cancer, he always maintained a strong work ethic and was a good provider. He was extremely devoted to his family and siblings and opened his home to two foreign exchange students resulting in life long friendships and travels to many European countries. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menominee and also enjoyed participating in the First United Methodist Church’s Wednesday evening Bible Study.
His wife of 33 years, Bonnie Callow survives, along with a daughter, Sarah Callow of Menominee; a son, Mark Callow of Schofield; a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Nancy) Gibout of Menominee; two brothers, Michael (Carol) Callow of Menominee and Kenneth (Sheryl) Callow of Muskegon, Mi.; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Perkins of Marinette; a brother-in-law, David (Penny) Perkins of Marinette; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Larry (Kay) Wenzel of West Bend and nieces and nephews. He is further survived by extended family, Timo Pithannen of Happsalu, Estonia, Phyllis Johnson and close childhood friends, Mary Lou Anderson, Robert and William Malmsten, Mark Peterson and Ken Pedersen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, Donald Perkins.
Friends called from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20 at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette. A celebration of life took place at Bethel Lutheran Church in Menominee on Monday, Sept. 21 at 11 a.m. Reverends William Shepard and William Beyer officiated and burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, Mi.
