
Richard A. Nelson Richard A. “Dick” Nelson, 78, of Niagara died Friday, Sept. 18 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mi.
Born on Nov. 4, 1930 in Iron Mountain, he was the son of the late Enoch and Elin (Johnson) Nelson. He graduated from Niagara High School and worked as a millwright at the Niagara Paper Mill for 44 years, retiring in 1992.
He married the former Mary Jane Lough on Dec. 6, 1951, in Norway and the couple enjoyed 57 years of marriage. A member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, R.S.V.P., and the Golden K, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, cross country skiing, field training his hunting dogs and coaching youth sports.
His wife, Mary Jane survives, along with five children, Mrs. John (Lisa) Mitchem of Niagara, Scott (Pam) Nelson of Naperville, Ill., Robert (Tess) Nelson of Lino Lakes, Minn., Brian (Lori) Nelson of Royal Oak, Mi. and Eric (Mark Hackbarth) Nelson of Milwaukee; a brother, Donald (Gladys) Nelson of Aurora, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A brother, Albert Nelson preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Niagara. Fr. Matt Settle officiated. Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home of Iron Mountain handled the arrangements.
