$100,000 Loan, Grant To Norway
U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced Norway Township in Dickinson County, Mich. has received a $10,000 grant and a $90,000 loan for the purchase of new equipment. The funding was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) through the Community Facility Loan and Grant program.
“This funding will help Norway Township purchase needed equipment to better serve the community,” Stupak said. “USDA rural development grants continue to provide funding to improve community facilities across Northern Michigan.”
Norway Township will use the funding to replace outdated equipment used for cemetery maintenance. Equipment purchased through the grant and loan will include a pickup with dump box and snow plow, a small backhoe and two propane cemetery blankets for warming the soil in winter.
The USDA Community Facilities program provides grants and loans to assist in the development of essential community facilities in rural areas. Funds can be used to construct, enlarge, or improve community facilities for health care, public safety, and community and public services.
