
Judith H. Solander Judith H. Solander, 89, of Stephenson, Mi. passed away Friday, Oct. 23 at her home.
The former Judith Helen Bergquist was born Nov. 17, 1919 to the late Henry and Ellen (Johnson) Bergquist in Stephenson, (Palestine) Mi. She attended local schools and graduated from Stephenson High School. In 1942 she graduated from Northern Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in education and then went on to complete her master’s degree at the University of Michigan.
She married Fredolph “Peanuts” Solander on Nov. 20, 1954 at Bethlehem Covenant Church. He preceded her in death on June 14, 2000. She taught school in Harrisville, Mi. for one year and in Stephenson for 39 years. After retiring from teaching, she worked in the family business, Solander Electric.
She was a member of the Michigan Retired Teacher’s Association and the American Legion Auxiliary Post #43 of Stephenson. An active member of Bethlehem Covenant Church, she was involved in the Ladies Aid. She joined the church in 1938 and was currently the longest surviving member and was proud to have helped with the 125th Anniversary Celebration of the church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, shopping, reading cookbooks, grocery shopping and being a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Four sons survive. They are Dennis (Bobbi) Morton, David “Doc”, Mark (Joan) and John (Beth), all of Stephenson, Mi. She is further survived by four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Edwin (Dorothy), Grant and Stanley Bergquist; a special friend, Joan Houseman of Traverse City, Mi. and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Glenn.
Visitation was held on Monday, Oct. 26 at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson after 4 p.m. with a Legion Auxiliary service at 7 p.m., followed by a prayer service. Visitation continued on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Bethlehem Covenant Church from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Rev. Andrew Stonina officiated and burial followed in Bethlehem Covenant Church Cemetery. Pall bearers were Scott and Matthew Havelka, Barry, Bruce and Dale Bergquist and Cody Woods.
