
Mabel A. Cavadeas Mabel A. Cavadeas, 89, former resident of Bark River passed away at her home in Escanaba, Mi.
Born May 16, 1920 in Escanaba, the daughter of Napleon “Poly” and Alice (DeGrave) Jean, she was their only child. She married her longtime friend, Antone “Tony” Cavadeas on Aug. 31, 1940 and the couple was married for 47 years before preceding her in death.
She graduated from Harris High School in 1938 and then went to Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago for about a year, but felt nursing wasn’t suitable for her. She then worked at Chicago Stock Yards Breeds Association, transcribing the pedigree of bulls. After her children were older, she also worked at Robinson Furniture sewing. She was a housewife and homemaker most of her life.
She and her husband, Tony traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada. She enjoyed traveling with her family and in later years traveled to Ireland, London, France, Italy, Greece, Medigore and on two cruises. She also enjoyed spending the past six winters in Arizona. She was a longtime member of St. George Church in Bark River, where she was active in the Rosary Society and the Circle. For the past 20 years, she was a member of St. Patrick and St. Joseph Church. She belonged to the Harris Home extension and was also a 4-H helper.
Among survivors are a son, Antone “Tony” (Babs); two daughters, Mrs. Emil (Carol) Ogren of Escanaba and Beverly Pinegar of Marinette; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Ted (Delores) Cavadeas of Green Bay, George Cavadeas of Escanaba and John (Charlene) Cavadeas of Gladstone, Mi.; a sister-in-law, Margaret Henline of Miami, Fla. and nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Tony, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Pinegar.
Visitation was on Monday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Crawford Funeral Home, Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial followed at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick and St. Joseph Church with Rev. Eric Olson officiating. A luncheon followed in the church fellowship hall. Burial was in Bark River Cemetery next to her husband.
