
Elizabeth A. Vedra Friends called on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Taylor St., Marinette from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., for Elizabeth A. Vedra, 79, of Marinette.
Rev. Joseph Dorner officiated and burial was in Forest Home Cemetery, Marinette. Thielen Funeral Home assisted the family. She passed away on Friday, Oct. 30.
Born on Nov. 3, 1929 in Marinette to the late John and Blanche (Holub) Mileski, she was a 1946 graduate of Marinette High School.
She worked at Wisconsin Bell and the Marinette Menominee Medical Clinic. She married Harley Jensen on Oct. 16, 1948 in Marinette and he preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1978. She married Richard Vedra on Aug. 21, 1983 in Marinette. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Altar Society, Menominee American Legion Auxiliary and BAMC Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered many hours to various organizations and enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, Richard survives, along with a son, Jeff (Robin) Jensen of New Frankin; three daughters, Mrs. Samuel (Judy) LaValley of Menominee, Mrs. Peter (Joan) Aubry of De Pere and Mrs. Tim (Jackie) Chaltry of Green Bay; stepchildren, Mrs. Joe (Nicci) Taerud of Lena and Jon Vedra of Marinette and six grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, Harley Jensen, she was preceded in death by a brother, John and a sister, Bernice Plautz.
Gerald A. Wauters
Gerald A. Wauters, 78, of Marinette, passed away Monday, Nov. 2 at his home after a battle with cancer.
Born Aug. 6, 1931 in Menominee to Arthur and Marian (Bayee) Wauters, he spent his early life in Menominee and was a graduate of Menominee High School, Class of 1950.
In 1952 he married the former Gwendolyn Chernetski and they lived in Roswell, N.M. for nearly four years while he was serving in the United States Air Force with the 509th Airborne Division. After leaving military service in 1956, they returned to this area and he worked as a tile setter for Erickson Tile Co. He also trained in photography and worked with Paul Ihde and was hired as a photographer by Bell Telephone Laboratories in Naperville, Ill. For the next 25 years, they resided in St. Charles, Ill., where he also operated a construction business that built many homes in that area. He retired at age 55 and moved back to the twin cities, where he continued to work as a tile setter.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church of Menominee, the Menominee Knights of Columbus Council and 4th Degree Knights Assembly, and was a former Grand Knight and District Deputy. He was a former alderman for the City of Menominee, a member of the Moose Lodge, Menominee American Legion Post and the AMVETS. He was also a past-president and longtime volunteer with the Bay Area Medical Center Auxiliary.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen and one son, Gary (Lil) Wauters of Crivitz. He is also survived by two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Francis (Doris) Cornell and Ruby Harring, both of Menominee, his twin sister, Geraldine Ihde of New Hudson, Mi. and Mrs. Arnold (Shirley) Spaude of Menominee; three brothers, Duane (Rita) Wauters of Lakeland, Fla., Glenn Wauters of Menominee and Don (Barbara) Wauters of Palm Harbor, Fla. and his mother-in-law, Gertrude Chernetski of Marinette.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call at Holy Spirit Church, Menominee, after 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6 . A 4th Degree Knights of Columbus honor guard will be present at the church. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. on Friday at the church by Fr. Ron Skufca. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Menominee. A memorial fund has been established. Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home, Marinette is serving the family.
