
Matilda A. McElhatten Former Walsh resident, Matilda A. McElhatten, 76, of San Antonio, Tex., who was living with her daughter, Maggie Russell in Magnolia, Tex. prior to becoming a resident at Azalea House Nursing Facility in Magnolia, passed away there on Saturday, Oct. 31.
The former Matilda A. Krulatz was born in Walsh on March 31, 1933 to the late Martin and Ethel (Oliver) Krulatz of Porterfield.
She graduated in 1951 from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, Marinette. After graduation she worked at Ralph M. Smith Insurance Co., Marinette and then enlisted in the United States Navy, where she met her former husband, James McElhatten. She served in the Navy and also the Air Force in the medical field during the Korean War era. She was also in the Reserves and was called to duty during Desert Storm for about six months. She retired from the Navy and continued working in the medical profession.
Surviving are four children, Maggie Russell of Magnolia, Tex., Kathleen Celaya, Cynthia Warden and James M. McElhatten, all of San Antonio, Tex. She is further survived by six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Mildred Bero of Whittemore, Mi., Mary Sutter of Mount Horeb and Mrs. Edward (Margaret) Esser of Verona; two brothers, John Krulatz of Kenosha and Peter Krulatz of Menominee, Mi. and 22 nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine McElhatten; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Arthur and June Krulatz; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Theresa Hosak, Veronica and Richard Chaney, Robert Bero and Ronald Sutter; a sister-in-law, Ella Mae Krulatz; former sister-in-law, Theresa (Kirt) Krulatz and a nephew, Steven Chaney.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Nov. 4 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, Tex. Funeral services were held in the chapel of the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. Burial followed at Klein Memorial Park in Magnolia, Tex. with military honors.
