Letter to the Editor:
“Shop Local.” This is a saying we should live with. In this day and age, we really need to think twice about this. When you and I make purchases locally, we are actually employing many people. Just like you and I, the business has a mortgage or rent to pay, they need to make a profit to stay in business, or the hundreds, if not thousands, of people that are employed by these local businesses would not have a job.
The service sector employs a lot of individuals. They may be you, or a family member, or your neighbor. Everyone needs a job to pay their bills. Buying locally makes sense. We need these local businesses, and they need and appreciate us patronizing them.
I’ve done my share of fund raising over the years, and I’m always amazed how wonderful these businesses are willing to help out. It’s maybe because I shop there frequently, which I always enjoy. They are friendly, courteous, have fair prices and always appreciate me.
So remember the next time you go out to eat, or to the mall, or to the bank, grocery store or gas station, or any other local business, you are helping to keep the local employment high and the unemployment low.
SHOP LOCAL.

To the Editor:
As you may have read in the Peshtigo Times, the days of M-O Conference football are probably over. This is a very sad time for those of us who love the M-O.
In September of 1926 the M-O was formed by area schools represented by Messrs. Worachek, Walsh, McDonald, Quick, Brick and Lovedale. The M-O became one of the most respected conferences in the state, and has great tradition.
Now the football portion of it will be coming to an end, and what are the reasons behind it. When you get right down to the truth of it, it’s selfishness and jealousy. What’s most disappointing to me is there are schools in our conference who support this proposal. Where is your sense of M-O tradition and pride?
There are more important things than making the watered down playoffs. There are more important things than winning. They’re called integrity, tradition, truth and respect.
I salute Messrs. Worachek, Walsh, McDonald, Quick, Brick and Lovedale for giving those of us who have enjoyed M-O Conference football for years so many memories.
I wonder what they would think today of the demise of the M-O Football Conference? I wonder what “Lucky Leo” Pesch, the greatest ambassador of the M-O Conference, would think today?
Evidently, the majority of the schools in the state today, including some in the M-O, just don’t get it.
Sincerely,
Roger Lanich,
Wausaukee
ARE YOU THANKFUL?
Are you thankful this Thanksgiving
For the things God’s given you?
Are you thankful for the blessing
That He sends the whole year through?
Are you thankful for your family,
For your shelter, food and friends?
For the health and strength God gives you,
Plus forgiveness of your sins?
Are you thankful for your freedom,
And the nation in which you live?
For the men and women who fought,
And had to sacrificially give?
Are you thankful for the many things
That God has given everyone?
Like the mountains, plains and seas,
The heavens, the stars, the moon, the sun?
The trees, the birds, the animals,
And even each breath we breathe,
Are only a few blessings,
That we daily receive from Thee.
Are you thankful for contentment,
And peace within your heart?
There are so many blessings,
This list is only a small start.
So let us all be thankful,
For God’s blessings sent our way.
And let’s make it Thanksgiving,
Each and every day.

I am sure you all have heard the saying to take time to smell the roses but how about taking time to hear someone sing your praises.
That happened to me last week when meeting with a group of longtime users of Camp Bird, over 50 years. When talking about the camp, the group mentioned how they were looking forward to their yearly visit. They always look for what changes were made, including improvements and program changes. They really appreciate the county camp personnel that are beneficial and make them welcome. I think that is a very nice tribute to the Parks and Forestry crews that maintain the facilities. It sure made me feel good about their remarks and thought you would also appreciate the results of your efforts. Needless to say, I was really pleased to hear their comments.
