Marilyn M. Midtbo

Marilyn M. Midtbo, 84, of Edgerton passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 31 at her home, surrounded by her family, close friends and her “Bright Star Angels” following an extended illness.

Born on April 1, 1928, she was the first of 12 children, born to Francis and Mabel (Duenn) Beattie of Amberg and was proud of her Scottish and German heritage. From an early age she assumed the role of sister, caregiver and mother that would define her personality for the rest of her life.

At the age of 15 she moved to Milwaukee to seek opportunity and to help her family. Shortly after her move, she met her partner in life, Stanley Midtbo and the couple celebrated 66 years of marriage. They moved to Edgerton and became partners in founding IKI Manufacturing, which over the past 57 years has become one of the most successful aerosol packagers in the world, has employed hundreds of local workers and packages products for some of the most recognizable companies in America. The company and their family grew and for many years she loved to travel and have fun with her husband and friends. Active in the community, she served as vice president of the Edgerton Hospital Board and also participated in various community and church activities.

Later in life, her single greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews. She enjoyed cooking and hosting dinners, had a strong faith and love of music. She enjoyed reading books and always sought to keep her mind sharp and busy. Her desire to care for people as a mother, aunt or friend was well known. Her favorite activities were playing Gin Rummy with her husband and spending time in Marinette County at her “little cabin in the woods.”  

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Stanley; a daughter, Sherry (Charles "Buck") Sweeney of Stoughton; a son, Larry (Julie) Midtbo of Edgerton; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary Jane (Bob) Axcell and Jean Ylivisaker, both of Edgerton, Dorothy Whitaker of Oakland, Ore., Karen (Harry) Mathias of Stephenson, Mi. and Debbie (Gary) Edwards of Yelm, Wash.; a brother, Jack Beattie of Amberg and numerous nieces, nephews and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Joan Mattison, Marion Espy and Sandy Carter and two brothers, Francis "Bud" Beattie and Robert Beattie. 

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5 at Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton with Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial was in the Wheeler Prairie Cemetery, Stoughton. Friends called at Ehlert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Edgerton on Monday, June 4 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
