Bids, Resignations, Data On School Board Agenda

At the Crivitz Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, July 18 in the meeting room, high school principal Jeff Baumann stated he, superintendent Pat Mans andelementary and middle school principal,Jeff Walsh attended a meeting at Marinette High School regarding truancy recently. It was attended by administrators form area high schools and was sponsored by Judge James Morrison and Marinette County Health and Human Services. Purpose of the meeting was to discuss information about truancy and to get everyone on the same page. It was nice to find out they were doing what was expected of them, he added.

He also announced the yearbooks were distributed to the high school students on Thursday, July 12 and Friday, July 13 and he was very pleased with them. Mrs. Prange made some nice additions to the yearbook including a senior newsletter at the end of the year that was well received and he complimented her on the changes.

Principal Baumann said he and Walsh were at a CESA workshop to discuss educational data and its relevance to all the changes occurring in state testing and the Common Core standards. The workshop was helpful as they prepare for their data retreat in August.

Board members absent were Lyle Cherry and Jane Meissner. Attending were president Jeanette Sikowski, clerk Ginger Deschane, treasurer Martha Neitzer, and Tom Weidemeier and Mike Dama, members.

Four retirees recognized were Sharon Swanson of the food program and Jackie Oleninezak, Mary Jane Kempka, and Barb Mladenik of the custodial staff. They were each given certificates of recognition.

Superintendent Mans talked about new test scores by the Department of Public Instruction and how they would affect test scores now being used. He said it will be harder to get a high score on the report cards than previously and gave a complete run down of scores that will now be used.

Walsh said they filled two elementary teaching positions with personnel who had done some work already.

Walsh said they will need to replace another teacher after a resignation is approved.

The data retreat will take place on Aug. 8-9 in the high school library. About a dozen teachers in K -12 are involved.

Custodians have been working very hard this summer and are going a great job, he added. He appreciates all their efforts especially in the heat they have had. The building and the grounds are looking great.

Tom White, the Building, Grounds and Transportation Director reported the summer cleaning is progressing and they remain ahead of schedule. Nearly all of the carpets have been cleaned and once the classroom cleaning is complete they will begin painting, window cleaning and doing any necessary things.

He said the TRITON Room upgrade is complete.

Only two bids were received for contracted cleaning, one was from Building Services group from Little Chute and the other was Goodwill of Marinette.

They are working on measures to vapor seal the high school server and wiring/data rooms to allow better temperature and humidity control.

He is awaiting estimates for leveling and seeding the elementary playground. As soon as they are received he will share the estimates with the committee for review.

Kim Plaunt, Director of Instruction from Blue in Green Bay, talked on public education. She used the board’s mission statement for her basis. Current and future changes to public education were aired.

The board approved elementary/middle school student handbook changes and discussed changes for the high school handbook.

The resignations of assistant high school track coach Dan Shrader and the golf coach and 6th grade teacher Ann Nuttal were accepted. Appointed summer open gym supervisor was Kate Deschane. A list of coaches and extra curricular advisors for the middle school and high school was approved.

Morning Glory was given the milk bid and the bread and bun bid went to Witt’s Piggly Wiggly. Waste Management got the garbage bid.

It was decided not to go with contracted services for the custodial help but to stay with the staff service used now.

The board recessed to executive closed session.
