DePouw, James Lead Oconto To Tourney Title; Peshtigo 3rd
Sparked by the talents of Sara DePouw and Laken James, the Oconto Blue Devils posted a 4-0 record to earn top honors in their own 5-team volleyball meet Tuesday. Shiocton was second at 3-1 followed by Peshtigo 2-2, Coleman 1-3 and Valders 0-4.
DePouw totaled 42 kills and 40 digs in the meet, James added 38 kills and 47 digs and Hannah Miller 73 assists and 25 digs.
Third place Coleman was paced by Makenzie Sadowski with 24 kills while Lindsey Kerr added 50 assists. Sadowski had 8 kills against Valders, 7 versus Shiocton and 5 in the game with Peshtigo.
Coleman beat Valders 25-17 and 25-19 while losing to Peshtigo 25-17 and 25-18, Shiocton 25-16, 23-25 and 20-18, Oconto 25-14 and 25-19.
In a season-opening match Tuesday, visiting Menominee posted a 25-13, 25-9 and 25-15 win over a young STAA squad.
Courtney Conery collected 15 points, 5 aces and 3 blocks, Allia Stewart 14 points and 4 aces, Karli Barley 7 kills and 2 blocks while Amanda Pedersen added 6 kills and a block.
Kristin Sorenson topped STAA with 4 aces, 3 assists and 6 digs, Lilly Duffrin 4 spikes and 2 blocks, Linsey Hannon 12 digs, Lexi Hayes 4 digs while Molly Linczeski, Riley Schultz and Allysa Hornick registered 3 digs each.
The jayvee game also went Menominee's way 25-14, 25-13 and 15-10.

The Badgers got their volleyball campaign underway with a split against Norway and Kingsford.
Coach Carol St. Arnaulds netters swept Norway 25-15, 26-24 and 25-23 before losing to Kingsford 25-18, 25-13 and 16-25.
On the night, Maryellen Wagener tallied 12 spike kills, 3 tips, 4 blocks and 3 digs.
Kaitlyn Lundin and Shanna Nordell added 9 spikes each, Shelby Borchardt 6 spike kills and 4 digs, Danielle Bennett 18 assists and Abbey Bagnieschi 17 assists.
Jayvee results saw Niagara top Norway 25-9, 25-19 and 15-13 while losing to Kingsford 25-17, 25-23 and 15-8.
Coming up victorious in 10 of 12 games, Wabeno took home top honors at the Crivitz tourney Tuesday with Algoma second at 8-4.
Leading Algoma were Karissa Koss with 32 kills, 12 aces and 19 digs while McKenzie Mueller added 72 assists and 12 aces.
