Chester Shallow Chester “Chub” Shallow, 82, of Lena died at his home Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Born to the late Oliver, sr. and Gladys (Brabant) Shallow on Jan. 8, 1930 in the Town of Little River, he married the former Joyce Garrigan on Jan. 24, 1953 at St. Charles Catholic Church, Lena. He was a present member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Lena.
He drove school bus and was a dairy farmer and continued his love of farming his whole life. He started his major life’s work of milk hauling in 1953 on a milk can route for Frigo’s Cheese of Lena. He hauled milk until 2000 when he was 70 years of age to have his hips replaced. He then began his retirement job at the Village of Lena Recycling Center. An avid deer hunter, he enjoyed sports, particularly baseball, playing, coaching and following the Brewers. He also enjoyed the Packers and NASCAR. He loved his entire family, especially his wife of 59 years, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce; five children, Judy (special friend, Michael Schmidt) Allan and Keith (Lynn) Shallow, both of Kelly Lake, Janet (Stanley) Cook of Lena, Peggy (Billy) Belongia of Fond du Lac and Kevin (Sherrie) Shallow of Oconto Falls; 22 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; five brothers, Oliver, jr. (Margaret), Russ (Mary), Ken (Mary Lynn) and Wayne (Bonnie), all of Lena and Jerry of Coleman; six sisters, Phyllis Smith of Green Bay, Marie (Bill) Grady of Oconto Falls, Carmen (Don) Danks of Sheboygan Falls and Jean Henrichs, Shirley (Dick) Gilles and Gail Shallow, all of Lena and a sister-in-law, Eileen Shallow of Lena.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Vernon, Roger and Richard.
Friends called at Rhodes Charapata Funeral Home, Lena on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., with a wake services held at 7 p.m. Visitation continued on Friday, Sept. 7 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Lena from 9 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Fr. Celestine Byekwaso officiated and he was placed to rest at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, Lena.
