Dear Editor,

It is impossible to experience a day without some sad news of death or destruction. It may be about war, a local massacre, or a car accident.

Our children see so much violence they have almost become immune to it.

Therefore, can someone please explain to me the Need for a wolf hunt? These magnificent creatures were once almost lost to us because of our ignorance. Are we going to allow this again?

There is only One reason to hunt or trap wolves and that is for the Fun and Thrill of the kill. Their flesh will not be eaten and no one in their right mind would display a pelt.

The wolves aren’t destructive. Yes, there are rouge wolves that cause damage and should be dealt with by the appropriate authorities, but all the wolves have the same ability to cause destruction and they don’t.

Fisherman - they help maintain trout streams because they are a natural predator to the beaver that destroys trout streams.

Coyotes are afraid of wolves so they don’t stay in the area. Black bears eat more fawns than wolves.

Isn’t there enough violence and destruction in our world? Why can’t we appreciate the beauty in nature? Why do we always have to destroy?

Dear Editor,

I am deeply troubled by the reluctance of anyone running for political office to not want Voter I.D.

There is only one reason that I can fathom - the use of illegal immigrants and non-registered voters to steal an election.

A photo identification card or document should be mandatory!

(Below is a letter my twin brother, Willard Lund of Madison, sent to the Wisconsin State Journal.)

I’ll venture to say that everyone knows of or has a family member with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia.

My wife has Alzheimer’s. She is in excellent physical health, can cary on a conversation, take care of personal hygiene and do family chores. But she can make no decisions.

Her memory span is very short. She cannot ever be left alone, so the burden of care falls on her family.

With about one in six people expected to have some form of dementia, how will Obamacare, Medicare or Medicaid solve this immense problem?

This is where Sarah Palin’s assumption of rationed care has merit. With limited funds available, if one person has solvable health problems and is able to contribute to society while another has dementia and is unable to contribute, who will receive the most funds?

Rationed health care? You make the call because many other health conditions would be involved.

There are huge problems with no clear solutions. Contributions for research, local involvement and great public awareness are needed.

Letter to the Editor:

Rep. Tom Tiffany is running for State Senate in the 12th Senate District, and I think he is the right person for the job. Tom is a small business owner in Rhinelander, and he worked during the last legislative session to make sure that our state's budget was balanced. He helped turn a $3.6 million deficit into a surplus without raising taxes. Tom is committed to keeping our budget balanced and cutting red tape in government. Tom is also committed to ensuring that we use our natural resources in a responsible, yet beneficial way by promoting tourism in our beautiful part of the state and by utilizing the forest products industry more fully. Tom wants to bring jobs north of Highway 29 and put our economy back on track. I support Tom and I hope you will too!

Rep. Jeff Mursau is seeking re-election in the 36th Assembly District. He also is a small businessman and lives in Crivitz. Jeff currently chairs the Assembly Committee on Forestry as well as the Natural Resources Committee and is on the Agriculture Committee. These committees are all vital to our area of the state. Jeff has also been a strong supporter of motorized recreation (snowmobile and ATV) and making more public land available for hunting. I've personally worked with Jeff on some of these issues and I know that he is out there working hard every day for ordinary folks in his District.

Due to legislative redistricting some of you may be voting for either or both of these candidates for the 1st time. I can assure you that neither of them will “run to Illinois” nor hide from the sometimes tough decisions that we expect our legislators to make. Please vote for Tom and Jeff in the upcoming elections. They both did “build their own business” and will work hard to create jobs and prosperity for residents of the far northeast corner of Wisconsin.

Dear Editor,

I'm growing weary of hearing about corporations and small businesses calling themselves job creators. The working class are the true job creators. We buy things, build things and hire services.

Businesses try to pretend they employ us as some kind of noble and patriotic thing. Truth is they hire us because they make money off our labor and skills. If we get hurt on the job and they didn't have to pay us workman's compensation, they wouldn't. If they lay us off and didn't have to pay unemployment, they wouldn't. If we were killed on the job and didn't have to compensate our families, they wouldn't. If they didn't have to offer us healthcare to keep us from going somewhere else , they wouldn't.

No matter what they say about what they need to create jobs they won't hire anyone unless they can sell their product or services.

Businesses want to be protected by the world’s greatest Army, the best Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, use our satellite network, roads, water, school system and much more but don't want to pay taxes.

So remember the next time employers tell you how much you need them, remind them how much they need you.

Dear Editor,

On Saturday, Sept. 29 is the Crivitz Area Food Pantry 1st ever Open House for the community. We are inviting the public and our donors to visit our new location, generously donated to us by K.C. Stock. The Open House will be from 11:00 am � 3:00 pm, at the new site located at the Cruisers Yachts Building, 305 Hall Ave. (down the street from the High School). Please join us and see how your donation dollars are kept locally.

The open house coincides with the Crivitz Business Association’s Annual Fall Craft fair. Admission to the Craft Fair, being held at Crivitz High School, is a donation to the Food Pantry. All of the proceeds from the Crivitz Business Association craft fair entrance, and raffle benefit the pantry.

As we enter the holiday season, we find our client numbers increasing and any and all donations are gratefully accepted. We are a 501(c) (3). Our mailing address for donations is PO Box 398, Crivitz, WI 54114. We hope you can stop by and see us on Saturday.
