Art Council Election At Annual Meeting
The Menominee Area Art Council (MAAC) held its annual business meeting and election on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 6 pm at Spies Library. Elected to two year terms were area artist Susan Perrine, president; Julie Simmons, vice president; and UW-Marinette art professor James LaMalfa, secretary.
Outgoing president Harry Groulx and MAAC founder John Henes were presented certificates of appreciation for their support. Henes gave a brief history of the group which was founded in 1957.
Also present was Menominee Mayor Jean Stegman who thanked MAAC members for their community wide support of the fine arts. She said, Every day I get compliments on the art hanging on our walls and the new mural above my office."
MAAC annual membership is $25. The group has established an art scholarship for area high seniors majoring in art in the name of the founder, John Henes. MAAC also supports area music events, Theater on the Bay and UW-Marinette's Childrens Theater.
