THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Gerald Jerry Beattie, 68, of Menominee passed away on Thursday, Oct. 18 at home after a year battle with scleroderma.
Born in Menominee on July 13, 1944 to the late Clyde and Marcella (Menor) Beattie, he graduated from Menominee High School Class of 1962.
After graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he served during the Vietnam War. After service he returned home and worked for the Menominee County Road Commission, retiring in 2004. On June 20, 1970 he married Wanda Mays. He enjoyed golfing and at the age of 13 shot his first hole in one at North Shore Golf Club. He was an honorary member of the UP Golf Association since 2006. He also liked hunting, fishing and bowling, which he bowled a 300 game.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Wanda; a daughter, Bonnie Menacher of Green Bay; a brother, Wayne (Doris) Beattie of Menominee; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may call at Cadieu-Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. till time of parish prayers at 11:30 a.m. Deacon Vincent Beckley will officiate. Military honors will be presented by the 20 Year Club. The family is requesting that any expression of sympathy and kindness be directed to a memorial fund that has been established in his name.
