
Powers, Cavaliers Cruise To Pair Of Cage Victories Already in mid-season form, junior guard Kiefer Powers fired in 58 points to key non-conference wins over Florence 65-53 and Stockbridge 68-56. The high scoring performance by Powers sparked the Cavaliers to a 3-1 start to the 2012 season.
Elsewhere around the conference courts, unbeaten Suring cruised to victories over Wabeno 68-24 and Oconto Falls 64-41 while the Wausaukee Rangers used fullcourt defensive pressure to turn back Goodman-Pembine 54-35.

Off Florence 65-53
Kiefer Powers lit up the Florence defense for 30 points in leading the Cavaliers to a 65-53 non-conference win Tuesday. Hitting on a variety of jump shots, Powers made a dozen shots inside the arc while adding a trey and three free throws.
Mike Schmidt chipped in with 10 points, while the Bardowski brothers, Brennan and Jameson, added 9 and 7 points.
A pair of three point shots by Schmidt propelled the Cavaliers to a 10-9 lead at the opening horn, before Powers and company battered the Bobcats in period two 25-11.
Enjoying that 35-20 edge, STAA stayed ahead in the second half despite getting outscored 33-30
Austin Herman lead Florence with 13 points.
In the jayvee game, Florence posted a 49-41 victory.
Suring Slams Wabeno
In 68-24 Cage Rout
The one-two punch of Jay Tienor and Blake Strehlow combined for 39 points to lead Suring to a lopsided 68-24 rout of visiting Laona-Wabeno Tuesday.
Tienor popped in 9 buckets and 3 free throws for his 21 point total while Strehlow added a pair of threes to go along with 6 field goals.
The Eagles opened the game on fire, soaring to a 21-3 first quarter led as Strehlow connected for 10 points on 5 field goals while Tienor added 6 points.
Keeping the offensive pedal on high, Suring padded the lead to 41-9 by intermission, highlighted by a combined four 3-pointers from Dan Sweda and Strehlow.
With the outcome no longer in doubt, Suring capped the win with 27-15 second half charge.
Sweda finished with 11 points while Dillon Kempen added 8 for the winners.
Logan Chrisman topped Laona-Wabeno with 8 points.
Heimke Nets 25,
But Lena Loses
Justin Heimke tallied 20 of his game high 25 points in the first half, but it wasnt enough as Lena got leveled by Tigerton 60-37.
Lena owned a slim 14-13 edge at the opening break as Heimke poured in 12 points on two 3s, a pair of twos and 2 charity tosses. The hot shooting Heimke dialed in a pair of treys in period two for 8 more points as the Wildcats stayed on top 24-23.
The second half was a different story. Putting the defensive wraps on Heimke, Tigerton ran off scoring runs of 20-4 in period three and 17-9 over the final 8 minutes to pull away.
Roy OHarrow was the number two scorer for Lena with 4 points while Matt and Dylan Marquardt netted 3 points each.
Brandon Severtson paced 4 Tigerton cagers in double figures with 16 points while Tyler Marquardt added 15.
Tigerton also won the jayvee game 39-20.

Patriots In 54-35 Win
Utilizing fullcourt pressure from start to finish, the Rangers ran visiting Goodman-Pembine ragged in claiming a 54-35 victory Friday night.
Coach John Ranallos cagers jumped out to a 15-3 first quarter lead then upped the margin to 28-9 at intermission. Over the final two frames, both teams netted 26 points.
Senior guard Ryan Nystrom and Zach Orlando paced the Rangers with 12 points each, James Kramer added 8, Aaron Schlies 7 and Beau DeLaet 6.
Trent Heath tossed in 12 points for the Patriots while Randall Bose added 10.

Crivitz Crushed
By Bonduel 56-35
Host Bonduel broke open a close game with a 24-10 scoring edge in the fourth quarter in a 56-35 win Saturday. Crivitz trailed 10-9 at the first break and 21-15 at intermission. Following an 11-10 third quarter, the Wolverines faded down the stretch.
Colton Lange netted 11 points for Crivitz, Dominic Basso and Jake Wiedemeier 7 points each.
Jacob DeBauch paced all scorers with 19 points.

To Spark Cavvies
Kiefer Powers continued his high scoring binge with a team-high 28 points in a 68-56 home win over Stockbridge Monday night. Powers did most of his damage from behind the 3-point arc, connecting 7 times while adding on a trio of two-point shots.
Jameson Bardowski added 21 points, freshman Brennan Bardowski 6 and Casey Boyle 5.
In a closely contested first half, the Cavaliers grabbed a 12-9 first quarter lead before both teams lit up the scoreboard for 14 points in period three.
Points continued to be tallied in the third frame in a 24-24 standoff that saw the Cavaliers open on a 11-2 run. Stockbridge answered with a 10-2 surge and trailed 50-47 with 8 minutes left.
Midway through the fourth quarter, Powers drilled a trey as the Cavaliers upped the cushion to 64-52 before using the free throw stripe to wrap up the win.
Jake Hilbreth netted 26 points for Stockbridge.
The Cavaliers connected on a dozen 3-point shots while adding 8-12 free throws.
Sweda Swishes In 21
Points To Key Suring
One of the smallest players on the court made a huge impact as 58 Dan Sweda twirled the twine for 21 points to spark Suring to a 64-41 road win. Sweda dialed in on 5 treys, including 3 in the opening period.
Dillon Kempen and Jay Tienor added 14 points each while Blake Strehlow chipped in with 10 points.
With Sweda finding the mark for 8 points in the first quarter, Suring raced to a 19-13 edge. Tienor took over the scoring load in period two with 8 points on a trio of buckets and two free throws while Kempen added 6 points for a 33-21 edge.
Continuing to hold the upper hand in the second half, Suring ran off scoring blitzes of 18-11 in period three and 13-9 in the fourth quarter. Sweda scored 10 points in the third quarter, highlighted by a pair of threes and Strehlow added 6 while in the fourth quarter Kempen and Tienor netted 4 points each.
Alex Young tallied 14 points for Oconto Falls and Tyler Kowalczyk 11.
Patriots Slip
Past Niagara
A 14-5 third quarter scoring edge proved to be the difference as Goodman-Pembine knocked off host Niagara Monday 53-43. The Patriots (1-1) owned a 23-22 halftime lead before gaining some much needed breathing room in the third quarter.
After battling to a one point game at halftime, poor shooting in the third quarter was the difference, Niagara coach Jim Hoogland said.
Alex Whitt, 64 and the son of head Paul Whitt, topped Goodman-Pembine with 12 points, 67 Brennan Pierquet added 11 points while Randall Bose and Cody Metras chipped in with 8 points each.
Goodman-Pembine made 20 of 40 shots (50%) while holding a 30-24 rebounding edge.
Jordan Zawada was the top point producer for Niagara with 21, including a trio of 3-point bombs. Zawada tallied 7 points in the first quarter and 6 in the fourth while also hauling down 10 rebounds. Zach Zychowski added 9 and Joey Swanson 6 points. Colin Anderson dished out 5 assists.
Niagara finished with a 17-53 shooting mark (32%).
Goodman-Pembine won the jayvee game 38-20.

Gillett Roughed Up
By Bonduel 64-30
Falling behind 38-13 at halftime, Gillett proved to be no match for host Bonduel 64-30. Over the final 16 minutes, Bonduel (2-0) ran off a 26-17 scoring edge.
Gillett was paced by Shane Anderson and Clint Long with 11 points each.
Jacob DeBauche netted 17 and Connor Rosin 13 for Bonduel.
Coleman Clipped By
Laona-Wabeno 66-39
Getting outscored in every quarter, Coleman came out on the short end of a 66-39 loss to Laona-Wabeno. The Cougars (0-3) fell behind 27-14 at intermission and were outscored 39-25 in the second half.
Brandon Pagel netted 12 points for Coleman Luke Demeny 8.
Zach Reeves and Logan Chrisman fired in 20 and 18 points for the winners.
