Marinette Gals Earn Split To Open Play, Top Stephenson 37-33

After putting together a perfect 16-0 championship mark last year, the Coleman Cougars look like they will be the team to beat again.

And why not!

Coach Jeff Bronson watched his cagers open M-O Conference play in style with a 56-15 whipping of Wausaukee Tuesday night. The lopsided win saw Coleman hold the Rangers scoreless in the second frame and to one point in the third to pull away.

Elsewhere in league play, Niagara knocked off Crivitz 48-33, Peshtigo used 17 points from Shannen Ganter to level Lena 49-39 and Suring slipped past Gillett in a battle of Oconto County teams 36-35.

The Cougars will get back on the hardwood courts Thursday, November 29 hosting STAA at 7:15pm while the rest of the league waits until Friday to play.

Coleman Too Much

For Rangers 56-15

The Coleman Cougars got 20 points from Makenzie Sadowski on their way to a 56-15 rout of Wausaukee on Tuesday.

Not only did the Cougars get a big night from their star player, their defense managed to hold the Lady Rangers scoreless over the second quarter and then frustrated the Wausaukee girls into a one-point performance in the third as they ran away with the victory.

The Coleman defense forced the Lady Rangers into 45 turnovers on the night while holding them to only 18% (5/27) shooting.

Wausaukee was paced by four boards and six points from Krista Hilpert to go along with Kaylor DeLaet's two points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Ganter Scores 17 To

Lead Peshtigo 49-39

Senior guard Shannen Ganter netted a game high 17 points as Peshtigo opened the M-O campaign with a 49-39 win over visiting Lena. The Bulldog backcourt ace did most of her damage in the third quarter, drilling a trio of three-point shots to keep her mates in front 36-32.

Nicole Motkowski was the number two scorer for Peshtigo with 10 points while Carly Dietrich and Claire Stuart added 6 points each.

Melissa Bushmaker topped Lena with 9 points, Holli Blazek 8 and Vanessa Hanrahan 5.

The Wildcats overcame a 7-5 first quarter deficit with a 16-13 second period run to own a slim 21-20 halftime lead.

With Ganter hitting three times from behind the arc and Stuart once in the third quarter, Peshtigo regained the upper hand at 36-32.

Over the final 8 minutes, the Bulldogs ran off a 13-7 edge, highlighted by a perfect 6-6 on free throws.

Wolverines Downed

By Badgers 48-33

The Niagara Badgers withstood a third quarter that saw them get outscored 10-3 by the Crivitz Wolverines to go on to win 48-33.

The Badgers needed 16 points from Brooklyn Wolosyn, 14 from Kaitlyn Lundin as well as a 17-6 advantage on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter to secure the victory.

Crivitz was led in defeat by Victoria Neumann's 15 points as well as 11 from Jennifer Kempka, who also connected on Crivitz's lone three pointer of the evening.

Suring Surprises

Gillett In Opener

The Suring Eagles put together a well rounded game on their way to a narrow 36-35 victory at home over the Tigers of Gillett.

Kelsey School led all scorers with 13 and was backed up by eight apiece from Breanna Tienor and Mackenzi LaMarre.

The Tigers also had a pair of players notch eight points each in the loss as Kara Brennan hit on four field goal attempts and Marissa Sherman connected on a pair of field goals, a free throw and one from downtown.
