Coleman And Suring Remain Perfect Sparked by narrow victories over Niagara 40-36 and Peshtigo 34-27, the Suring Eagles sit atop the M-O Conference basketball standings with a 3-0 record.
Suring owns a half game edge over defending league champion Coleman (2-0), which only played once this past week. In that outing, the Cougars showcased their talents on both ends of the court to dominate STAA 65-18.
Three teams share the number three spot with 2-1 readouts...Gillett, Niagara and Peshtigo while Lena moved to 1-1 with a 55-28 win over Crivitz.

Coleman Too Much
For Cavalettes 6518
The Cougars got off to a 14-2 start in the first quarter and never let off the gas, either offensively or on the defensive side of the ball, on their way to a 65-18 drubbing of the STAA Cavalettes.
A total of four Cougars reached double-digit scoring territory while the Coleman defense didn't allow STAA more than nine points in any of the contest's four quarters.
The offensive numbers look great for Coleman in this one. The team is certainly enjoying the return of guard Hope Process from injury. Process went for 18 points to lead all scorers while providing consistent pressure on whoever was unlucky enough to draw her number for the Cavalettes' offense.
"Hope Process's return makes us more athletic and a better team defensively," said Cougars head coach Jeff Bronson. "Hope is one of the best guard defenders in the conference and having her back in the lineup gave us a boost. The team looked more aggressive on defense when she was on the floor."
Makenzie Sadowski did most of her damage in the third period, scoring nine points, before dialing down her scoring intensity to focus on rebounding and defense, where she tallied three blocks and picked up four rebounds. Lindsey Kerr had a well-balanced game with her 16 points, four in each quarter, as she time and again attacked the lane with an aggressive style of play that proved to be too much for the undersized STAA defenders. Kerr also added in seven boards.
Abby Bieber chipped in 10 points to round out Coleman's top scorers in the game while Ashley Teteak and Sammy Schaal each added four. Schaal led the team in the assists column with six.
"We have many girls that can score, balance has been a strength so far," said Bronson. "But if we are patient and demonstrate the ability to wait until a good shot presents itself, we will continue to be hard to guard."
The Cavalettes were led by seven points from Taylor Wilson, followed by Riley Schultz's four points.
Bulldogs Outlast
Crivitz At Home
The Peshtigo Bulldogs finished hot Friday to get the 43-31 victory over Crivitz.
After working their way to a slim 9-8 lead after one quarter of play, the Wolverines quick start gave way to a consistent Bulldogs attack that snagged the upper hand in the second quarter and managed to close the third up by six at 30-24.
It was all Bulldogs in the fourth as the home team tallied 13 points, including six in the frame from Nicole Motkowski (eight total), while holding the Wolverines to just seven to secure the win.
Helping out for Peshtigo in the win were Shannen Ganter, who led the team with nine points while Amanda Majewski and Jenna Spangenberg had six each.
Leading all scorers was Crivitz's Jennifer Kempka with 12 while Crystara Batten added nine in defeat.
Eagles Clip Badgers
The Badgers gave Suring quite a bit of trouble over four quarters of play Friday night in Niagara, taking a 10-6 lead at the end of the first frame, but couldn't quite close it out as they lost to the Eagles 40-36.
Suring took a slim 32-31 lead into the fourth quarter and managed to score eight while its defense held the home squad to just five.
The Eagles got a game-high 18 points from Erin Fisher, eight from Calley VanBellinger and five each from Kelsey School and Breanna Tienor.
Brooklyn Wolosyn turned in 14 to pace the Badgers, Jenna Carlton added six while Kayla Evans and Maryellen Wagener each had four.

Suring Holds Off
Peshtigo 34-27
Calley VanBellinger fired in 12 points and Erin Fisher 11 to lead Suring to a hard fought 34-27 victory over host Peshtigo. The battle of unbeaten teams saw the Eagles own the upper hand at the half 19-16 before Peshtigo got even after three frames 20-20.
The final 8 minutes belonged to Suring as Mackenzi LaMarre fired in a three pointer and layup, VanBellinger two baskets and Fisher a trey and free throw to key a 14-7 closing run. Brittany Marquardt tried keeping the Bulldogs within striking distance finding the mark for 5 points, including a trey.
VanBellinger, a junior, got Suring rolling with 6 points in a turnover-filled opening quarter on two baskets and a pair of free throws for a 10-9 spread.
Peshtigo gained the lead at 7-6 on the strength of a three point shot by Shannen Ganter and layup from freshman Amanda Majewski (3:29). VanBellinger put Suring back on top at the first break, registering a pair of baskets around a steal and layup by Peshtigos Addison Cogswell.
Period two was more of the same...miscues and missed shots.
Fisher sailed in for a layup against the press for a 14-11 edge (5:24) before Peshtigos Carly Dietrich countered with a layup and a 14-14 deadlock at the 2:26 mark. Fisher struck again with a trey and VanBellinger scored off an inbounds play with 24 ticks remaining to give Suring the 19-16 halftime edge.
Points were tough to come by in the third quarter as Peshtigo held a 4-1 edge to get even at 20-all. Dietrich and Nicole Motkowski tallied baskets for the Bulldogs while Surings LaMarre canned a free throw.
Lady Rangers Can't
Close Out Badgers
Wausaukee found itself in prime position to pick up a win against the competitive Niagara Badgers. The Lady Rangers, playing solid defense, managed to keep a lid on the scoring abilities of Niagara freshman sharpshooter Brooklyn Wolosyn and were enjoying a five point lead in the fourth, looking to close the game out.
But for all of Wausaukee's tenacious play over the first three quarters of action, including a second quarter that saw the home team Lady Rangers outscore the Badgers 13-7, they couldn't keep Niagara off of the scoreboard late in the game. Niagara rattled off six straight points down the stretch and put a damper on what was almost a great game for Wausaukee and got out of town with the 35-30 victory.
Wolosyn didn't have an easy time against the improving Wausaukee defenders but still managed to lead all scorers with 13 while Kaitlyn Lundin added 12 for Niagara.
Lauren Edlbecks seven points led Wausaukee with teammates Krista Hilpert and Crysta Clark right behind her with six apiece.
"I was happy with the defensive effort tonight," said Wausaukee head coach Jon Betts. "Unfortunately, things didn't go our way in the last two minutes of the game.
Wildcats Drop
Wolverines 55-28
Lena got a game-high 22 points from Marlena Wagner in a 55-28 rout of Crivitz on Tuesday to improve to 2-1 on the season. The Wildcats, who outscored the Wolverines 19-7 in the second quarter, got eight apiece from Melissa Bushmaker and Emily Ellman.
Crivitz (0-3) was led by 11 from Jennifer Kempka while Victoria Neumann and Kelsey Fickler each turned in four points.
Gillett Hammers
Cavalettes 68-12
Racing to a 33-4 lead at halftime, Gillett had no trouble with the Cavalettes 68-12.
Kohls paced four Gillett cagers in double figures with 12 points.
Taylor Wilson and Riley Schultz tallied 4 points each for STAA.
-Non League Results-
Lena Sails Past
Menominee Indian
Lena's Emily Ellman connected on a pair of three pointers on her way to a game-high 12 and the Wildcats steamrolled the Eagles by a final score of 55-18 Friday night.
In the lopsided win that evened the Wildcats' record at 1-1, Marlena Wagner turned in nine points, Melissa Bushmaker eight, Melinda Svejda six while Christina Jagiello and Kayla VanLanen each had five.
Menominee Indian was led by five each from Megan and Sasha Peters.
