Primary, April Elections Have Contested Races

The deadline for filing nomination papers in towns, village, cities, school boards, state and local judicial along with state school superintendent was Wednesday, Jan. 2. As a result, there will be contested races.

Marinette County voters will also decide a race for Marinette County Circuit Court Judge for Branch 2 for a six year term. Candidates are the incumbent Judge James Morrison who was appointed to fill out the unexpired term of retired Judge Tim Duket by Governor Scott Walker and the present Marinette County District Attorney Allan Brey.

There will be primary elections on Tuesday, Feb. 19, for supervisors in the Town of Stephenson and the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School Board, will also have a primary election as three persons filed for the one open seat.

Town supervisor races will be held April 2 in the towns of Lake, Middle Inlet, Niagara, Brazeau, Pembine, Silver Cliff, Stephenson, and Wagner. Brazeau will for the first time vote in a five member board.

Town clerk races are in Middle Inlet, Porterfield and Wagner, and constable races in Peshtigo and in Porterfield where the incumbent did not file.

For villages only the Village of Crivitz will have a contested race April 2. In the Village of Pound a write-in candidate could be elected as no candidate filed for one of the posts.

City races will include Peshtigo for ward three alderperson.

School Board races have also developed in Pembine, Coleman, Crivitz, Niagara, Peshtigo and Wausaukee.

Filing for the Wisconsin Supreme Court 10 year term are incumbent Justice Pat Roggensack and challengers Marquette University law professor Ed Fallone and attorney Vince Megna. A primary would be required Feb. 19.

For state Superintendent of Public Instruction are incumbent Tony Evers and challenger State Rep. Don Pridemore. The term is for four years.

The only candidate for Court of Appeals District 3 for the six year term is incumbent Lisa K. Stark.

Municipal Judge Clifford Patz has no opposition for re-election to a four year term to serve for the Town of Pound and Village of Coleman.

Alfred Barribeau is a candidate for Municipal Judge of Goodman, Laona and Wabeno Joint court.

A listing of candidates for election in towns, villages, cities and school boards follows:

TOWNS:

Amberg: All incumbents filed. They are Chairperson-Matt Mattison, Supervisor 1-Ronald Holmes, Supervisor 2-Russell Werner, Clerk-Pat Boshen, Treasurer-Lisle Suzawith.

Athelstane: All incumbents filed including Chairperson-John Dobratz, Supervisor 1-Harold Tesch, Jr., Supervisor 2-David Jose, Clerk-Janice DuChateau, Treasurer-Gregory Reinhardt. Harriet Ivanis also filed for chairperson.

Beaver: All incumbents filed. Chairperson is David Bedora, and supervisors Jerome Fendryk and Vernon Gisenas.

Beecher: All incumbents filed. Chairperson is Robert Gehri, Supervisor 1-Daniel Groy, Supervisor 2-John Keeley, Clerk-Betty Nowack, Treasurer-Carolyn Keeley.

Brazeau: This is the first time there will be a 5-member Board. Filing for Chairperson were incumbent Ryan Wendt and Darrel Enix, former supervisor. Incumbents Rodney Gretzon and Gerald Kempka filed for supervisor along with Jim Hannah, former Board member, Scott Herzog, Howard Weier, and David Parmentier. Jean Grosse filed for the newly combined office of clerk/treasurer. She was clerk for a term, elected in 2011.

Dunbar: All incumbents filed. Chairperson is Russell Bousley, Sr., Supervisors Robert Kordus and David White, and Clerk/Treasurer-Becky Grandaw.

Goodman: All five incumbents filed. They are chairperson William Stankevich, Supervisor 1-Steve Gostisha, Supervisor 2-James LaChapell, Clerk-Susan Pratt, Treasurer-Cindy Nelson.

Grover: Only incumbents filed. They are Chairperson Wayne Staidl, Supervisor 1-Kim Kittredge, Supervisor 2-Wayne Hoffman, Clerk/Treasurer-Lisa L. Witak, Constable-Doug Witak.

Lake: All incumbents filed. Chairperson is Lyle Cherry, Supervisor 1-Linda Tarmann, Supervisor 2-Travis Mueller, Clerk/Treasurer-Penny Chaikowski. Robert Burmek is also a candidate for Supervisor 1.

Lena: All incumbents filed for the Town of Lena. They are chairperson Kevin Jagiello, supervisors Anthony Fetterly and Wade Kosmal, Clerk Diane Lavarda, and Treasurer Jean St. Louis. The office of constable was held by the late Donald Jagiello. The Town Board will appoint his wife, Marlene Jagiello to the position at the Jan. 10 meeting.

Middle Inlet— All incumbents filed. Chairperson is Richard M. Wade, Incumbent supervisors Anthony J. Magerowski and Kenneth P. VanCamp filed along with Roger Leick. Incumbent Clerk/Treasurer Charles D. Stanek filed for a return to his office and will be challenged by Carol Bausch.

Niagara: Incumbent Town Board Chair Alfred Sauld filed as did two supervisors, Richard Payette and Mark DeClark who will be challenged by Robert Sparks. Town Clerk Dawn Johnson also filed. Rachael Ellison, Treasurer, filed non-candidacy papers. No one filed for the treasurer position.

Pembine: Incumbents filing were chairperson Louis Linsmeyer and Supervisor Vincent Czahor. Charles Jakups, supervisor, had resigned due to health reasons. A supervisor will be appointed at the next meeting to take his place. Also running for supervisor are Patrick Willis and John Schuette.

Peshtigo: All incumbents filed. Chairperson is Herman Pottratz, Supervisor 1-Dan Staudenmaier, Supervisor 2-Mark Monnette, Town Constable-Oren Ninnemann who will be challenged by Robert Schounard.

Porterfield: Non-candidacy forms were filed by Clerk Barbara Wickman and Constable David Dzurick. Running for clerk are Amy Linstad and Julee Frankard. All other incumbents filed for a return to their seats. They are Chairperson Eugene LaCombe, Supervisor 1 Audrey Guseck, Supervisor 2 Don Limberg and Treasurer Wendell Philipps.

Pound: Only incumbents filed. They are Chairperson Jerry Heroux, Supervisors Leonard Semrau and John Gaffney, Clerk-Tammy Kasal, Treasurer-Janelle Rymer.

Silver Cliff: Present Chairperson Gaylord King filed for non-candidacy and is not seeking a return to his seat. Incumbent Supervisor 1 Henry Burkel filed for the office of chairperson, and Jeff Schaal incumbent Supervisor 2 filed for the Supervisor 1 seat. Clerk Steffanie Bishop and Treasurer-Carol Kitchmaster both filed, as did Constable-Scott Baldwin. Cindy Jonet is a candidate for Supervisor 2.

Stephenson: All incumbents filed. Incumbent Chairperson John Konopacki will be challenged by Mike Kudick, and incumbent Supervisors Thomas La Susa and Joseph Banaszak will be challenged by Darrell Pentico, Richard Kikulski and Mark Stindt. Clerk-Elaine Olson filed, as did Treasurer-Mary Jane Kempka. A primary is necessary on Feb. 19 as five persons are candidates for the two supervisory seats.

Wagner: Incumbent Bill Weissgerber filed for chairperson and will be challenged by Lynn M. Hickey. Incumbent Allen E. Sievert filed for Supervisor and will be challenged by Kurt Konell and Phil Jones. Supervisor David E. Setunsky had filed for non-candidacy. Incumbent Clerk Melissa S. Christiansen will be challenged by Linda M. Wilke, and Treasurer-Margo L. Renikow is unopposed for her office.

Wausaukee: All incumbents filed for re-election. Chairperson is Jeff Engelmann, Supervisor 1-Robert Jicha, Supervisor 2-Robert Ranallo, Clerk-Cheryl Stumbris, Treasurer-Sally Hultquist.

VILLAGES:

Coleman: Three incumbents filed for re-election. They are President-Glenn A. Woulf, Village Trustees-David Podoski and Diane Patz. Incumbent trustee Nancy Stank is not seeking the office.

Crivitz: All incumbents filed. President is John J. Deschane, and trustees are Kurt Kostuch, Dick Kaminski and Jo Di Volk. Fred Franzen also filed for village trustee.

Pound: President Jay Martens and Trustee Tyler Gross both filed for re-election. Trustee Barbara Kleikamp filed a non-candidacy.

Wausaukee: Jeffrey Townsend resigned as president and Hilbert “Slug” Radtke was named president to serve out the term until the April 2 election. Radtke filed for the office and will be a candidate on the April 2 ballot. Also incumbents filing for trustee were Ann Hartnell and Kyle Stumbris. John Ranallo filed a non-candidacy form. Debra Stumbris, aunt of Kyle Stumbris, filed as a candidate for village trustee.

CITIES:

Peshtigo: City of Peshtigo alderman for the 1st Aldermanic District, Fred Meintz filed for non-candidacy as did Alderman Mary E. Lock of 3rd Aldermanic District. Running for that district are Donald Richter and Debora Sievert. Alderman of 2nd Aldermanic District, Michael J. Behnke filed for a return to his seat.

Marinette: Incumbent Alderperson Ward No. 1 Sandy Saunier along with Ken Keller filed. Alderperson Ward No. 4-Scott Wahl filed for non-candidacy. Alderperson-at-large-Bradley Behrendt filed for his seat. Because no one filed for Wahl’s seat, the deadline for filing was extended to Jan. 7. A former alderperson Shirley Kaufman filed for the seat.

Niagara: Mayor George Bousley filed for return to his seat and incumbent Glenn Lantagne is a candidate for alderperson. Two alderpersons who filed non-candidacy forms were Mark Moreau and Gary Unrein. Michael Darne and Teresa West filed for Niagara alderpersons.

SCHOOL BOARD:

Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine: Incumbent Nick Dal Santo did not file for re-election. Three candidates seeking the seat are Jason Heath, Ryan Berger and Sally Monroe. A primary election is necessary on Feb. 19 to narrow the candidates down to two.

Coleman: All incumbents filed for re-election. They include Ryan Wendt, Jamie Graetz and Ted Verges. Jeremy Hoida also filed for a school board seat.

Crivitz: All three incumbents up for election filed non-candidacy papers. They are Ginger Deschane, Jeannette Sikowski and Thomas Wiedemeir. Seeking the positions are Kim Mc Fadden, Joseph D. Guarisco, Cory L. Sotka and Travis J. Mueller.

Goodman-Armstrong Creek: Both incumbents filed for re-election. They are Robert Stec and Carl Frydrych.

Lena: Only incumbents Edward Huberty and Kristan Huberty filed for re-election.

Marinette: Cindy Bailey and Robert Gannon filed non-candidacy papers. Incumbents who filed were Terri Florek and Richard O’Farrell. Chuck Rowell also filed for a seat on the Marinette School Board.

Niagara: James Dunnick and Karen Rock, incumbents, did not seek re-election and filed for non-candidacy. Four persons running for three spots are Patricia Sparapani, Peter Swanson, Keri Amundson, and Kaitlin Waugen. Amundson was presently on the board as she was appointed to replace Nicole Anderson who resigned last year. Amundson is now seeking a full term as a board member.

Peshtigo: All incumbents filed. Seat 2 has Bob Thomas, Seat 3-Amy Hammer who will be challenged by Tom Fischer, and Seat 4 is incumbent Kelly Jones.

Wausaukee: Incumbents Joe Lanich and Dennis Taylor both filed for a return to their positions. Also filing were Michael Versaskas and Raymond Gordon.
