Coleman Announces Village Home Decoration Winners

Coleman Village Board member Wayne Smet announced winners of the Christmas 2012 Home Decoration Contest at a Board meeting on Monday, Jan. 7. First place went to Lisa Hawkens and family, sponsored by Jiz’s Bar. Second place winner was Tim Boersinger family, sponsored by Steiner's and third place was awarded to Rick Broderick and family. Their sponsor was Village Suites.

Smet thanked the businesses and families that decorated the village trees for Christmas and reminded they can remove decorations now.

Village President Glenn Woulf welcomed a new business to Coleman, ChemCoat, Inc. The company, located at 117 Hammes Street, offers chemical conversion coating of aluminum components as well as Type 2 and Type 3 anodizing of aluminum components. According to owner Heinz Lauf, ChemCoat specializes in smaller lot sizes with economical lot charges. The company prides itself in fast turn-around times and an exceptionally high quality of workmanship.

In other matters, Woulf announced that Krueger Construction has finished the fascia work on the Municipal Building, with the final cost coming in about $225 below budget.

Board member Diane Patz asked if the village was aware that the “Welcome to Coleman” sign on southbound CTH CP needed some fixing. Apparently something is afoul with some of the lettering. Woulf replied he would look at it and get it repaired.

Under new business, the Board approved the 2013 Engineering Consultive Agreement with Cedar Corporation of Green Bay. The contract, worth $2,200, provides the village with assistance on any public works and planning issues that arise during the year. In 2012, Cedar provided a great deal of help with the TIF district, roadways, infrastructure assessment, the wastewater treatment plant review, and warranty review work on the CTH B project. The Board also discussed some of the projects. Cedar will assist in 2013.

The Board also approved the 2013 Coleman Area Rescue Squad agreement of $7,058.88. The Squad provides emergency medical services and vehicle extrication to the residents. The contract is up $255 over last year. Coleman Rescue provides these services for several surrounding villages and towns.

An operator's license was renewed for Tiffany Nosgovitz who works primarily at Steiner's.

The Board of Health and Sanitation reported the village has a new garbage company serving the residents. The former company was bought out and taken over by the new ones. The Board promised that there would be no change in the service.

The Cougar Country Business Association report included the lone item that the framework for the new billboard has been constructed.

Under Public Safety, Woulf announced work on the new tornado/emergency siren is finished by the company. They are working on a schedule for installation. The unit will be installed atop a pole by the fire house. The pole will be extended so that the siren will have better coverage of the area.

The Police Department report included 27 complaints for December, with 5 adult citations and 17 juvenile citations issued. The 22 citations totaled $4,177.50 in fines. A majority of the citations involved truancy.

The December Municipal Court saw hearings for 4 adults, 4 juveniles, 2 just cause and 6 case reviews. Police Chief Ida Soletske put in a total of 179 hours for the month and Katie Torres, court clerk, worked 84.75 hours.

For the calendar year 2012, the Coleman Police Department dealt with 369 complaints. The 148 municipal and 21 traffic citations had fines totaling $37,566.40.

The Fire Department reported they responded to three calls during December, including one chimney fire, one gas leak and one sawdust fire. The calls were for a total of 3 hours and 33 total man-hours. Total calls for 2012 totaled 8. In December, the department training centered on preparation for the start of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System on Jan. 10.

The Village Treasurer's report revealed December receipts of $129,250.98 and disbursements of $42,595.61. Balances on-hand on Dec. 31 included a checking account balance of $123,900.89, a money market savings account at Associated Bank totaling $195,786.82; and a money market savings account at Peshtigo National of $242,729.80. The total in village accounts amounted to $562,417.51.

The Board also pproved January vouchers totaling $40,665.59.
