Helen J. Ray, 78, of Marinette passed away after a 30 year battle with breast cancer on Thursday, Jan. 10 at home surrounded by her family.
Born on May 10, 1934 to the late Louis and Dorothy (LeFebvre) Sotka in Marinette, as a child she moved to Chicago with her family.
She had worked for Chicago Metallic and later returned to the Marinette area in 1963. She then worked at Chadwicks in Coleman which changed locations to Peshtigo and its name to Capitol Interiors. She worked there for over 30 years, retiring in 1998. Her family meant everything to her, and brought her the most joy. She was a devout Catholic and an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Altar Society, and the Breast Cancer Support Group.
She is survived by a daughter, Odette Ray of Marinette; a son, Robert (Jennifer) Ray of Menominee; two brothers, Louis Sotka, jr. and Gerald (Jean) Sotka; three sisters-in-law, Nancy, Jean and June were like true sisters to her; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several godchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita Zeifert and Marlene Nazario; three brothers, Richard, William and Francis Sotka and three infant sisters.
Friends called at Thielen Funeral Home on Monday, Jan. 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a wake service at 6 p.m. A Funeral Mass was held at Holy Family Parish-Our Lady of Lourdes Church on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. Burial was in Glenwood Memorial Gardens.
