Rev. Vernon C. Shuman

Reverend Vernon C. Shuman, 83, of Wallace, Mi. passed away on Friday, Jan. 11.

Born in Sterling, Ill. on Feb. 28, 1929 to the late Charles and Mabel Shuman, he was born again at the age of 20 into the kingdom of God. He married Patricia Joan Williamson, a college schoolmate, on Dec. 21, 1957 in Belding, Mi.

He faithfully served his King in many ways and places. He was a teacher, preacher, choir director, bass singer, camp director, puppet master, magician and artist. He drew others near so that they might serve Him as well. He attended Chadwick High School and Northern Illinois University, earning a bachelor of science degree in education and MA in science. He also took the Pastors Course at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

He taught at Yorkville Community High School and Orangeville High School, both in Illinois and was camp director at Hidden River Camp. He then went on to pastor Grace Bible Church in Winslow, Ill., Christ Congregational Church in Racine, Bethel Mission Covenant Church in Wallace, Mi., Bethlehem Covenant Church in Stephenson, Mi. and finally the Daggett Moravian Church in Daggett, Mi.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; five children, Stephen (Diane) Shuman and Philip Shuman (Mary Rowland), both of Racine, Deborah (Scott) Geller of Appleton, Timothy (Rebecca) Shuman of Gleason and Rebekah (John) Baquiran of Chicago, Ill.; 16 grandchildren and many spiritual children honoring the Lord and a sister, Grace Livingston Thomas of Shannon, Ill.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 15 after 4 p.m. with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson, Mi. Visitation continued on Wednesday, Jan. 16 from 10 a.m. until the service hour at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Covenant Church in Stephenson. Pastor Andrew Stonina officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery. His grandsons served as pallbearers.
