Larry A. Toltzman

Larry A. Toltzman, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, Jan. 20 at his home.

Born June 13, 1939 in Manitowoc son of William and Nettie Toltzman, he attended grade school and high school in Manitowoc and entered the United States Marine Corps in 1958. He served three years active duty, one year overseas and three years reserve.

He returned to Manitowoc to be hired at the Manitowoc Engineering Company where he retired in June of 1999. At that time, he and his wife, Dorathy moved to “his life dream of a log cabin” that they and the family built in the early 1980's. Lots of plans went into making that log cabin, with his dad and son building prototypes of Lincoln Logs. He was an avid wood carver and sketcher, working in pastels, chalks and oils. Over the years he acquired the need to pen words to paper and wrote many special poem-like stories, which he shared with only special friends.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing and after applying for 10 years, he successfully shot a black bear. He also spent many hours on Canyon Lake in Vermillion Bay Canada. He liked training hunting dogs, mostly Labs, which he had a few. Most recently he acquired the title of Jr. Vice Commandant, Det. 1239, working for Toys 4 Tots. He was also with Post #461 American Legion and served as Deacon of his church since 2001.

He is survived by his wife, Dorathy; a son, Loren (Chong); a daughter, Sara (Jason) Taylor; five grandchildren; a sister, Mary Lou (Gene) Gates of Two Rivers; three nephews and two nieces and many friends.

Preceding him in death are his parents, William and Nettie and a half sister, Elenore.

Christian memorial celebration will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 at Crossroads Church, W8134 Beecher Lake Rd, 4 miles south of Pembine. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. A lunch will follow. Messar-Roubal Funeral Home of Wausaukee is assisting the family.
