Deborah Fink of Eau Claire died Wednesday, Feb. 13 at her home with her family.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 322 Fulton St., Eau Claire. Monsignor Edmund Klimek and Fr. George Thayilkuzhithottu concelebrated the Mass and burial took place immediately following the service at Calvary Cemetery in Eau Claire.

Visitation was held Monday evening, Feb. 18 at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home, 3209 Rudolph Road, Eau Claire, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. There was no visitation at the church on Tuesday morning prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Hospital, St. Patrick’s Parish or the charity of one’s choice.

Born on Jan. 9, 1925 in Chicago, she was the daughter of James White and Deborah Connick White. She graduated from Longwood Academy and then from Loyola University School of Nursing. While practicing as a Registered Nurse for several years, she met and married Dr. Robert Fink. They raised eight children, Barbara (James) Morrison, Thomas Finch, Deborah (Robert) Ridenour, Susan (Richard) Hendel, Andrea (Peter) Gianaris, Karen, James (Jackie) and John (Kelly). They have 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

The couple was married for 64 years and during that time served as an example of what it means to honor one’s commitments while providing a loving and nurturing environment which allowed all of their children to excel in their chosen endeavors.

She was known for her loyalty and concern for others and while she would be embarrassed for others to know of her quiet philanthropy it was extensive. Among many other involvements she was an active member of the Sacred Heart Hospital Auxiliary and also of the Eau Claire Medical Society Auxiliary. She was leader of both Girl Scouts and Boy/Cub Scout troops. She hosted exchange students of Guatemala, Germany, Spain and Mexico and was also on the committee for several Viennese Balls. Active politically she hosted many honored guests in her home. She had a sense of the way to do things best, described as “Doing the right things, right!”

She was an avid reader and traveler, in fact traveling with her husband to every continent except Antarctica.

She enjoyed raising her eight children and was especially pleased with her 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She loved nothing more than phone calls from her children, so there is little doubt that now she and Andrea ‘Druz”, her most loyal caller, are catching up a bit while they continue to work to make a new and permanent home for all of their many loved ones.

Her husband, Dr. Fink survives, along with seven children, Barbara (James) Morrison, Thomas Finch, Deborah (Robert) Ridenour, Susan (Richard) Hendel, Karen, James (Jackie) and John (Kelly); 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and a brother, Joseph White.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Andrea “Druz”; two brothers, Richard and John White and a sister, Frances Supple.
