THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Margaret Marge Belongie, 83, of Marinette passed away on Saturday, Feb. 23 at her son's home.
Born on Nov. 15, 1929 to the late Charles and Gretchen (Younger) Johnson in Escanaba, Mi., she graduated in 1947 from Escanaba High School.
On June 26, 1948 she married Lawrence J. Belongie in Escanaba. They moved to Marinette and owned and operated Larry's Red Owl which later became the Firehouse Grill. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, the Red Hat Society, the Marinette Woman's Club and many other organizations in the community. She loved to cook and bake and even helped out in the kitchen at the Village. She enjoyed crafting and sending cards. She was so funny and could tell a great story and was currently working on writing a book.
She is survived by six sons, Dave (Cheryl) and Todd (Claire), both of Gladstone, Mi., Robert (Karen) and Kevin (Portia), both of Marinette, Dale (Lisa) of Maui, Hi. and Jerry (Chris) of Milwaukee; two daughters, Kathy (Bob) Burki of Lakewood and Jeanne (Robert) Bolton of Sandie, Ore.; a brother, Carlton; a sister, Frances; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lawrence, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leone Davis.
Friends may call at Thielen Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. with Jane Mattsen officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Home Mausoleum on Friday, March 1 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
