THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE

Bessie Standard Framstad, 90, known to all as "Betsy", passed away on Friday, March 26.
The daughter of Lester and Gurine Standard of Silverton, Ore. was born on March 11, 1923. She was raised there and graduated from Silverton High School in 1941. She went on to attend Modern Beauty School in Salem, Ore., Augsburg College and Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Rev. Waldemar Framstad, fondly known by friends and family as "Fram". They were married on Aug. 17, 1947 in Williston, N.D. Rev. Framstad 's ministry took them to Tacoma and Burien, Wash.; Bagley and Minneapolis, Minn.; L 'Anse Mich.; Marinette, Merrill, and Pepin, Wis. Upon his formal retirement the couple returned to Marinette where both continued serving the Lord through visitation ministry and giving of their time toward volunteer services.
She worked in hospitals, at I.D.S. Insurance and the Law Office of Dorothy Topel. She was a volunteer for Hospice, Women 's Shelter, Lutheran Social Services, Rainbow House, Respite Care and assisted in nursing homes.
She exuded a warm manner, a gentle and loving approach toward people. She was often called to lead church groups, various club activities and serve as a guest speaker. She started the prayer shawl ministry at Emmanuel Lutheran Church and had many unique hobbies, including oil painting, Norwegian Rosemaling painting, knitting and Hardanger embroidery. She loved bird watching and enjoyed canning, biking, cross country skiing and was a voracious reader. She was proud of her accident free driving record and was driving her own car until this past fall.
She is survived by four daughters, Lynne (Cleveland) Payne, Lois Morris, Mary (George) Atkinson and Gracia (Steve) Plehn; a son, James (Carlynn) Framstad; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at 10 a.m. with the memorial service to begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Menominee with Rev. Douglas Schoen officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Rainbow House Domestic Abuse Services, Marinette (contact: Joette 715-735-6656) or Lutheran World Relief (www.lwr.org) Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home, Marinette is assisting the family.
