Charles Hilmer Newlin, sr., 75, of Menominee passed away on Saturday, April 6 at Bay Area Medical Center, Marinette with his family by his side.
Born on June 24, 1937 in Menominee to the late Hilmer and Gladys (Marshall) Newlin, he married the former Shirley Bucholtz on Feb. 2, 1979. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 1992.
He worked as a commercial fisherman and logger, along with working at KSU for 27 years, retiring in 1997. Upon retirement, he owned and operated C&N Excavating. He enjoyed the outdoors and feeding wildlife. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and following their sporting events. He further enjoyed watching and following NASCAR and Friday Night Races in Norway, Mi.
Survivors include his children, Carla (Mike) Riihinen of Owen, Nancy Henderson of Columbia, Mo., Charles Newlin, jr. and Donna (Douglas) Kaster, both of Menominee, Deborah (George) Davidson of Mexico, Mo. and Cheryl (Randy) Harris of Wallace, Mi.; mother of his children, Sandy Anderson of Marinette; stepchildren, James Smith of Stiles and Connie (Tom) Smith of De Pere; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren; a brother, Robert Newlin of Menominee; a sister-in-law, Regina Newlin of Port Washington and good friends, Jerry Tanguay and Gust Johnson.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimmy (Newlin) Malke and a brother, James Newlin.
Family and friends may call at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home, Stephenson on Thursday, April 11 after 4 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Paul Hueter will officiate and burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in his honor for the American Cancer Society.
