THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
James H. Peetz, Sr.

Born on March 15, 1935 to Henry and Rose (Midle) Peetz in Lena, he grew up working on the family farm and helped out on the neighboring farm when needed.
As a young man he took his sister, Rosie and some of her friends on a road trip out west before being drafted into the United States Army. After his discharge he lived in different areas of the country, where he learned to drive truck, race motorcycles, sell ice cream and anything else that intrigued him at the time.
When he returned to Lena he met and married the love of his life, Gloria Kulhanek. They settled in Spruce, where they bought her grandfathers house for a dollar and raised three daughters and a son. After many years in Spruce they moved to Suring to be near their grandchildren.
Among survivors are his wife, Gloria; three daughters, Patti (Tony) Peetz-Lenz and Sue (Scott) Herning, both of Suring and Shirley (Chris) Smith of Green Bay; a son, James, jr. of Verona; seven grandchildren; a sister, Rose (Jim) Olson; two sisters-in-law, Marlene Peetz (Wally) and Andrea Kulhanek; two brothers-in-law, Robert Kadlec and Don (Corrine) Kulhanek and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Peter; a sister, Helen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gordon and Evelyn Kulhanek and a brother-in-law, Gordon Kulhanek, jr.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, April 13 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church in Suring, with visitation from 2 p.m. until time of service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
