Mary Murphy, 90, a life long resident of Green Bay, passed away Monday, April 8 at Parkside Village in Allouez.
Born on May 30, 1922, she was the daughter of John T. Murphy and Elizabeth (Cleary) Murphy.
A graduate of Marquette University, she taught high school history in Oconto Falls and De Pere. She received her MA degree in Social Work from the UW-Milwaukee and was a social worker for Brown County and for Green Bay Public Schools for many years, retiring in 1984. She was also a lifelong member of St. Patrick Parish in Green Bay.
She is survived by her nieces, Dr. Kathleen Cody of San Antonio, Tex., Mary C. "Kate" Murphy PhD (Katy Downs) of Pinckney, Mi., Sheila (Dr. Allen) Hill of Minneapolis, Minn., Eileen (John) Smith of Cassopolis, Mi. and Margaret (John) Mackai of Germantown; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; four great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews; a special friend and caretaker, Wanda Hammer and lifelong friend, Betty Miron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dr. John T. "Jack" Murphy and Patrick Murphy; sisters-in-law, Annette Tallman Murphy and Patricia Kelliher Murphy and her five dogs, all named Nipper.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave. from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18. A Parish wake service will follow at 6:30 p.m. Friends may also call at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 211 N. Maple Ave., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19 with a Mass of Christian Burial held at 11 a.m. Rev. Ryan Krueger will officiate and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Fort Howard Memorial Park. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
