Donald J. Race, 82, of Marinette passed away Friday evening, April 12 at the Luther Home.
Born Oct. 24, 1930 in Marinette., he spent most of his life in the Marinette area and was a graduate of Peshtigo High School.
He went on to serve in the United States Coast Guard and was married to the former Ruth O. LaFave on May 26, 1951. While following his duty assignments, they lived in Boston, Mass. and Maine before returning to Marinette. He spent 35 years as an employee of Scott Paper Co., working in several job capacities. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Marinette. As an outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing. In more recent years he took special pleasure in going dancing with friends at Equity Hall.
He is survived by three children, Larry (Kris) Race and Diane Race, both of Marinette and Audra (Mark) Olson of Elcho; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Shirley) Race of Crivitz; nieces and nephews and special friend, Joyce Zorn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth O. Race.
Friends may call at Zion Lutheran Church, Marinette after 4 p.m. on Friday, April 19. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday at the church with the Rev. Keith A. Kolstad officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name are suggested for the Alzheimers Association.
