Nuclear Weapons Should be on Standby
The United States should have nuclear weapons on hand and ready to use. According to the Arms Control Association (ACA), the U.S. has about 2,500 nuclear weapons. The U.S. already dismantled some of them, while other countries are developing more. If we dont have nuclear weapons on hand, other countries could take advantage of us.
What if a scenario similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis happens again? Its very unlikely that the United States could bluff their way through a situation to that extent. Especially when the majority of United States citizens would be killed or seriously affected. Id rather not depend my life on a politicians poker face.
In 1968 the U.S. and a couple other countries were seeking to prevent nuclear weapons from becoming more powerful. Those countries started the Nonproliferation Treaty. Pakistan, India, Israel, North Korea, Iran and Libya did not participate in this treaty. In present time these countries are all thought to be pursuing nuclear activities.
Another reason why we cant get rid of nuclear weapons is because if we get rid of them we cant just magically get rid of the waste. If we start dismantling nuclear weapons, what would we do with all the uranium and plutonium? Todays way of dealing with these toxic chemicals is to leave them sit for 1000 years to become less radioactive. The process of dismantling these weapons is very costly and so is keeping people on guard to protect this nuclear waste. We need to preserve these weapons instead of destroying them.
This topic is very serious and it affects millions. The United States needs to keep their amount of nuclear weapons instead of depleting that number drastically, while other countries are developing more. These are my reasons to keep nuclear weapons on standby.
Privacy Invasion and Health Risks, Is It Worth It?
Child pornography could be happening in airports around you today. Full body scanners used in some U.S. airports show full body images that could be captured and sold as pornography.
Strip searches are similar to the full body scanners, but neither protects our privacy. Governments of all states do not have the legal rights or issues to have a strip search done, unless absolutely necessary. Full body scanners conduct the same search behind walls. Governments are practically conducting strip searches in airports daily.
Gizmodo, a technology website, has researched and found that in November 2010, Florida Courthouse U.S. Marshalls had saved over 30,000 picture images of the body scans of visitors.
Not only do full body scanners invade our privacy, they also can pose health risks for passengers. According to Senator Susan Collins, a representative of Maine, While the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has told the public the amount of radiation emitted from these machines is small, passengers and some scientific experts have raised questions about the impact, or repeated exposure, to this radiation.
In conclusion, full body scanners should be banned from airports because of the privacy invasion and health risks they can cause. Airports do not need a scanner that could harm young children and other passengers.
Life or Death
If murdering someone puts you in jail and is illegal in the state of Wisconsin, then why isnt abortion? In the state of Wisconsin, women can abort or kill their fertilized egg (baby) and its okay, but if you stab someone you can go to jail. According to Eric Webb, an obstetrical doctor, With the union of the egg and sperm is life and genetically human. He also states that 50 million babies have been murdered (aborted) since Roe vs. Wade was decided in 1973.
After abortions, there are many problems that a lot of women dont know about, and that doctors dont tell them. Many of the problems are physical and emotional behavior. According to the Post-Abortion Syndrome Symptoms, Ramah International, 44% of the post-abortion patients complained of nervous disorders, 36% of the women experienced sleeps disorders. They had dreams about their babies coming back and about what their baby would have been and looked like. Because of that, 31% had regrets about the abortion, and would then have stress disorders. 11% of the 31% get prescribed to psychotrophic medicine because of the stress and other mental mind disorders.
Another problem is the medical risks after abortions, that the doctors dont tell you about. According to Terri K. Riesser and Paul C. Reisser from Identifying and Overcoming Post-Abortion Syndrome, women who abort face a 50% increase in breast cancer. They also have a 60% increase in their risk for an abruption placenta in their future pregnancies. If a woman does have an abruption placenta, it can lead to extreme and severe life-threatening bleeding. Women who have an ectopic pregnancy have a 12% higher risk of dying in future pregnancies.
Lastly, instead of aborting it there is adoption. According to the Center of the Bio-Ethical Reform, 42 million babies are aborted or killed in the United States. About 1 million of these are in Wisconsin. Because of it, the 50,000 couples that want to adopt cant since there arent enough babies put up for adoption.
If you dont want a kid, then you should have safe sex, or just dont have sex at all. Just because the fetus/baby doesnt have a brain when its aborted doesnt mean theyre not human like us. If you do get pregnant and dont want the baby, then you can put it up for adoption. Theres no need to kill the innocent baby for your mistake. Please consider these reasons, and take a stand against murdering babies.
The Effects of Child Abuse
Hundreds of thousands of children in the United States are estimated to be victims of sexual, physical or emotional abuse. According to the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, In a study of 17,000 adults, those abused as children were more likely to become suicidal; more likely to have heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease and liver disease; twice as likely to be smokers; twice as likely to become severely obese; twice as likely to become alcoholics; and three times as likely to develop a drug addiction.
Abuse creates many costs. 22% of the maltreated children have learning disorders requiring special education, which means that when children go into the hospital they have to pay for all of the hospitalization, health care, and child welfare and more, which costs over 284 million a day. This was from the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. According to the Prevent Child Abuse America Association, Across the nation there has been a great progress in work to improve the health and well-being of children. But the turbulent economy and the budget cutting that has come with it threaten to derail efforts to prevent child abuse and neglect at a moment when it is needed the most.
Physical abuse is a huge problem. And solving abuse. The American Medical Association reports, That preventing child maltreatment may be a key factor in preventing youth violence. Intervention may prevent future domestic violence and dating violence. If we would just do one little thing to stop physical abuse it could eventually stop teenage violence. According to the opposing viewpoint directors, That most people would agree and say that sexually assaulting or causing serious harm to a child is child abuse. But most people dont report child abuse because the adults dont think that the abuse that they have witnessed is actually child abuse. Report it even if you dont think that it is a real problem. Physical abuse may seem like it isnt a huge deal but it is because over 3 million children are physically abused each year (that are reported), says the opposing viewpoints directors. Reporting it right away might help solve the abuse that is happening.
And my last reason is that emotional abuse seriously affects children. According to the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center, Emotional abuse is any pattern of behavior that impairs a childs emotional development or sense of self-worth, including constant criticism, threats and rejection. So how would you know the difference between emotional abuse and if a child is not feeling good? According to the Opposing viewpoints directors, A major problem in dealing with child abuse is that the child welfare agencies are underfunded and understaffed that they lack tons of resources to investigate the life of the child. Emotional abuse affects many children, but since most people dont know when child abuse is happening or even if it is child abuse, they wont report it.
We could do a lot more to prevent child abuse. Hundreds of thousands of children are estimated to be victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. If we had some people in daycares that would report it right away once they see abuse going on, we would be saving hundreds of childrens lives. If you see a bruise on a childs leg and then you find more the next day, report it so that child can get some help to avoid the abuse from his/her guardian. Prevention of child abuse and neglect requires public education and a commitment from the communities to provide social, emotional and financial support systems for families, says the San Francisco Child Abuse Prevention Center. We could do more to help the children that need it.
