THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
Patricia (Young) Mathey died in Wyoming at the Lander Valley Medical Center on April 18.
Born Sept. 30, 1925 to Sam and Harriet (Dennisen) Young, dairy farmers in northern Wisconsin, she was the youngest of 10 children. She graduated from Oconto High School in 1943 and then from Marinette County Teachers College in 1945. She taught at a rural school, grades first through eighth for four years.
In 1947 she married Dan Mathey, they moved with their four children to Lander, Wyo. in 1960 where they owned a logging operation. When her husband died in 1962 from a logging accident, she proceeded to raise her family in Lander and became extremely involved in the community.
She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and an active member of St. Anns Altar and Rosary Society.
Survivors include her four children, Jane (Wayne) Moddie of Panama, Richard (Randy) Mathey of Green River, Wyo., Gale (Andy) Pleasant of Green River, and Scott Mathey of Brookings, Ore.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews, and a brother, Allen Young of Oconto.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters and six brothers.
The funeral was held on Tuesday, April 24 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Lander, Wyo.
