Redbirds Rule In Memorial Tourney

The Marinette Redbirds claimed a pair of wins during their inaugural Memorial Weekend Tournament, besting Crivitz 10-zip Saturday and Peshtigo 9-2 Sunday. Other results from the 4-team meet saw Menominee tip Crivitz 8-4 Saturday while Peshtigo powered to a 15-1 rout of Menominee Sunday.
The Wishigan League season will begin on Friday, May 31 as Crivitz travels to defending regular season and playoff champion Marinette for a 7:30pm outing. The birds will host the Green Bay Storm in a non-league affair on Monday, June 3 at 7:30pm.
Aaron Woods, Birds
Clobber Crivitz 10-0
With southpaw Aaron Woods in mid-season form, the Redbirds had no trouble taking care of Crivitz 10-0. Woods tossed a nifty one hitter, fanned 10 and walked just 3 during his 5-inning mound gem. The lone hit given up by Woods was a fifth inning single by Max Hansen.
Pat Wolard paced the 9-hit attack with two singles and a double, Adam Francour added two singles while Cody Bezio slugged a third inning 3-run homer and Jason Hofer a 4th inning two run shot.
Bo Heinemeyer (4 innings) and Jake Johnston shared mound chores for Crivitz.
Back Crivitz 8-4
The Menominee Storm jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings and never looked back in claiming an 8-4 win over Crivitz. Winning pitcher Brett Edlbeck aided his own cause with 4 hits, 3 RBIs, two runs scored and a 4th inning two-run homer.
Jake Schroeder added two hits for the Storm while Aron Schroeder scored a pair of runs.
Edlbeck yielded 6 hits and 3 runs over 4 innings before giving way to Ryan Kruse and Billy Betts to wrap up the win.
Jordan Hardy started for Crivitz allowing 8 runs on 6 hits and 9 walks over 5 innings. Scott Evosevich pitched the final two frames.
Heinemeyer punched out two singles, double and a solo homer in the third inning for Crivitz while driving in 3 runs.
Steve Oman highlighted a 7-hit attack with a single and three-run homer to power the Redbirds to a 9-2 win over Peshtigo. Finishing with 5 RBIs, Oman registered a sac fly in the opening frame, RBI single in the second before launching a two-out, three-run homer in the third. The round tripper gave the birds a 6-0 lead at the time.
Adam Francour added a two-run single in the third inning.
Cody Bezio started for the Redbirds allowing no runs on 3 hits, Todd Olsen added 3 innings of two run/3 hit ball before Luke Kelly mopped up in the 7th.
Jake Engels topped Peshtigo with two hits and a RBI.
The Predators avoided the shutout with two runs in the sixth on singles by Engels and Cody Nielson.

Walks And 8 Hits To
Turn Back Storm 15-1
With five Menominee hurlers dishing out 13 walks, the Predators were able to get in the win column following a 15-1 win Sunday. Menominee starter Brian Bell lasted 3 1/ 3 innings and was followed to the mound by Billy and Kevin Betts, Matt Jacobs and Jake Schroeder.
Leading the Peshtigo hitters with two safeties each were Jerit Zeitler, Jake Westphal and Tyler Marquardt while leadoff swinger Joey Sparks scored 3 runs.
Brandon Barrette drove in 3 runs with a fourth inning double, Zeitler added a trio of RBIs with a single and double while Mike Mergener scored once and drove in a pair of runs.
