Jerome D. Rommie Gillis, age 76, of the Town of Stephenson, passed away Sunday June 2, 2013, at Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette.
He was born in Marshfield, Wis. on September 15, 1936, son of Elias and Lillian (Ralleigh) Gillis. Jerome married Joanne M. Pieschek on May 28, 1960, at the Cathedral Church in Green Bay.
Rommie was a former Police Officer for 9 years in the Green Bay area. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved the great outdoors. Rommie and Joanne owned and operated Gillis General Store in Silver Cliff for 35 years. He was also a volunteer fireman for Silver Cliff. He especially enjoyed spending time around the bonfire with his family and just enjoyed life in general. He will be missed.
Rommie is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne; children: David (Tammy) Gillis of Twin Bridge, Jeff Gillis of Middle Inlet and Brenda (Steven) Gruszynski of Wausaukee; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight siblings: Eugene C. (Joanne) Gillis, Lorraine Rugg; Carolyn (Ed) Verboomen, Jim (Elaine) Gillis, Verna (Eugene) Jakubenas, Richard (Lili) Gillis, Kathy Gillis and Joan (Richard) Nader and numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Kenny, John and Robert.
Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m. on Wednesday June 5, 2013, at St. Mary 's of the Lake Catholic Church, Silver Cliff, with Father Jason Blahnik officiating. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at church on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Silver Cliff Cemetery.
