Sophie Kubick-Hertig, age 98, of Pembine, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Maryhill Manor in Niagara.
She was born in Goodman on May 3, 1915, daughter of Joseph and Anna (Krzyzak) Gremban. Sophie graduated from Goodman High School and married James Kubick on October 10, 1933 in Florence WI.
They owned and operated Kubick 's Grocery in Dunbar until January 1, 1978. James passed away shortly after retirement. Sophie married Earl Hertig in Reno, Nevada a few years later. Sophie enjoyed keeping busy and had a great sense of humor. She was the town treasurer of Dunbar for many years. Sophie was known to sew and cook, she loved to do her friends hair, she was a member of the Homemakers Club and the Senior Citizen Group in Pembine and was active with the Dunbar Community Church as she served as Treasurer there also. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Sophie is survived by a son, Wayne (Fran) Kubick of Rosendale, WI; daughter-in-law, Carol Kubick; ten grandchildren: Karla (Steve) Cooney of Brookfield, Karyl (Tom) Hanson of Ripon, Jonathon (Janet) Kubick of De Pere, Robin (Jeff) Overman of Albuquerque, NM, Roslynn (Eric) Anderson of Pembine, Rhonda Barker of Howard, Scott Barker of Dunbar, EJ (Meloney) Kubick, Kristine (Don) Gribble of Quinnesec and Chad (Jeanette) Kubick of Kingsford; 26 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Eddie (Juanita) Gremban and a sister, Angie Gurka.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James; second husband, Earl; daughter, Patricia; son, Kenneth; grandson, Stuart Barker; seven brothers and two sisters.
A Memorial Service will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Dunbar Community Bible Church, W11473 Wisconsin Ave., Dunbar, WI, with Pastor David Coats officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at church on Saturday. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Dunbar.
Sophie 's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Maryhill Manor for the excellent care given Sophie. We will be forever grateful for the love and respect shown her.
