Dr. Henry J. Reidinger

Dr. Henry J. “Doc” Reidinger, 87, Oconto Falls died Friday morning, June 7, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family.

The youngest of four children was born June 29, 1925 in Menominee, MI to Frank and Florence (Michels) Reidinger. He grew up in Menominee where he attended St. John Catholic Grade School, graduating from Menominee High School with the Class of 1943. As a young man he entered the US Navy during WWII where he had the very dangerous duty of “catching airplanes by cable” as they landed on ships out in the ocean. Following his honorable discharge from the military, he attended National College of Chiropractic in Chicago where he graduated with his degree in 1950.

On May 14, 1949 he married Jacqueline Tremblay in Marinette. In 1951 Doc was recalled into the Navy where he served his country again during the Korean War. In April of 1952 the couple moved to Oconto Falls with their first born son Tim and the couple's second child on the way. His first chiropractic office was in the present location of Senn Insurance on Main Street in Oconto Falls until moving into their new office on Caldwell Ave. in 1963. Affectionately known as “Doc”, he took great pride and dedication in caring for his patients for most of his adult life.

While his kids were growing up he was a Boy Scout leader and received the Trail Blazer award. As a member of over 60 years, Doc was a very active and dedicated member in St. Anthony Catholic Church where he served on church council, was a 53 year KC member where he headed the Tootsie Roll drive for those less fortunate, served as lector and started a “senior server” group, assisting in all the funeral masses which have been held at St. Anthony the past 30 years or so. As a member of Oconto Falls American Legion Post #302, he served on the funeral honor guard for many years and always participated in all the Legion's activities. Doc also served on the Oconto Falls School Board for nine years and once served as president. Always ready and willing to lend a hand, Doc volunteered for Kingdom Come, Meals on Wheels, drove fellow veteran's to their doctors appointments, helped with the Gillett SHARE program and always gave blood to the Red Cross. In 1996, Doc was recognized by the Rural Urban League for his outstanding community service.

Doc also was instrumental in organizing an early morning volleyball league at the high school years ago and the group played for many years. Doc was also a regular fixture at all youth and high school sporting events, especially for all his 19 grandchildren. After he retired, Doc was a regular morning visitor at Peterson Ford where he would get his day started before going to the post office to pick up the mail, his normal routine. As a charter member of River Island Golf Club, Doc helped to build the course in the early 1960's and played league golf until 1997. He also enjoyed playing cards after golf with his “old buddies”, John Nickel, “Red” Brehmer and Bob Ellner, all of who preceded Doc in death. Doc's favorite place where he could relax, sit on his swing overlooking the water and enjoy the interaction with his family and friends was at the property he bought many years ago at Kelly Lake, which has turned out to be a very special place for the entire Reidinger family.

Survivors are his wife of 64 years, Jackie Reidinger, Oconto Falls; their seven children, Tim (Linda) Reidinger, Oconto Falls; Colleen (Todd) Duame, Stiles Jct.; Kent (Lynette) Reidinger, Green Bay; Renee (Rick) Lemke, Oconto Falls; John (Debbie) Reidinger, Lake Forest, CA; Robert (Mary) Reidinger, Suamico; Brian (Jennifer) Reidinger, Green Bay; 19 grandchildren, Angie (Scott) Magnin, Randy (Elli) and Ross Reidinger; Tricia Spaulding, Cory (Lisa) Bailey and Jordyn Duame; David (Heather), Andrew (fianc Lauren Forbish), Matthew and Bethany Reidinger; Courtney ( fianc Dustin Coopman) and Carly Lemke; Zach and Meagan Reidinger; Adam, Alyssa and Aubree Reidinger; Morgan and Lauren Reidinger; 11 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Myles and Oliver Bailey; Justin and Anna Spaulding; Mya, Macy and Bryent Magnin; Riley, Kasen and Hudson Reidinger; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Fay (Gordon) Philibeck, Menominee, MI; Mary Lou (Gerald) Roeder, Dean (Sue) Tremblay, all of Marinette; nieces, nephews and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dr. Francis (Nell) and Dr. James (Bea) Reidinger, one sister, Virginia Reidinger and his niece, Mary Kay Reidinger.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2013 at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls, Knights of Columbus service 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls after 9 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2013 until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Fr. Joel Sember officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church or School, the Panther Pride Booster Club or Unity Hospice.

The Reidinger family would like to thank Unity Hospice including Dana, Lana, Cheryl, Gloria, Amy, and Rev. Bill Kamke, Fr. Joel Sember and Kathy Schroeder from St. Anthony's Parish and Dr. Bruce Neal and his staff from the Aurora BayCare Medical Center for all their kind and compassionate care of Doc, both spiritually and medically, as well as the many friends who reached out in numerous ways of support to the entire family.
