THE CITY REBORN FROM THE ASHES OF AMERICA'S MOST DISASTROUS FOREST FIRE
On the evening of Friday, May 24 Nancy Irene Joly, 74, peacefully passed away at Copper Village Hospice Center in Mesa, Ariz.
Born in Minocqua to the late Paul and Anne Soik, she spent her childhood in Green Bay, where she met her husband, Robert (Bob) on a blind date and married him on Jan. 25, 1958.
Moving to Niagara in 1968, she worked for many years as the cook at St. Anthony Parish in Niagara. With a strong passion for decorating, she spent many hours preparing the church for the applicable season. For many years she also did the bookkeeping for the Gamble Store and Hayward Interiors as well as serving as the local coordinator for NWTC.
Through the years she learned many crafts such as sewing, knitting, stained glass, quilting, decorating, interior painting and wallpapering. She was always willing to share her talents with others who enjoyed her various creations. All her children, siblings and close friends have had or still have some part of their homes decorated with her expertise. She also enjoyed having dinner parties with lavish themes and many people attending.
In her later years, her passion became the game of bridge. She truly enjoyed her bridge clubs, traveling and playing in tournaments which eventually made her a master bridge player, or just setting up tables and having a bridge luncheon at her home. She was heartbroken when she finally had to admit because of the advanced stages of Parkinson 's disease, she would have to give up the beloved game.
Surviving are her husband, Bob; children, Randy (Sandy) of Scottsdale, Ariz., Tim (Jill) of Seymour, Debbie (Pat) Weber of Plover and Kathy (Mike) Pozorski of Scofield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Sharon) Soik of Lakewood; two sisters, Marcia (Steve) Loch of Lakewood and SiuLan Soik of Milwaukee and brothers-in-law, Ken (Rita), Ron and Tom Joly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ann Soik; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Mildred Joly; a brother Dale; two sisters, Irene and Donna and a sister-in-law, Carol Joly.
A Funeral Mass was held in her honor on Friday, June 21 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Anthony 's Church in Niagara and burial was in Minocqua.
