1-9 Diamond Mark Peshtigo Legion Knocks Off Mid County 9-3 For First Win

Finally!

After coming out on the short end of 9 straight games, the Peshtigo Legion gang registered its first win Monday afternoon topping Mid County 9-3. The victory gives Peshtigo a split for the week after falling to the Green Bay Shockers 5-3 Sunday.

Getting that first win was nice for the kids and a long time coming, said Peshtigo coach Geoff Sparks. Matthew pitched a great game and we really hit the ball well to back him up. Hopefully we can get a few more of those wins before the season ends.

Unleashing their best offensive output of the season with 9 hits, Peshtigo scored 5 runs in the third inning to break the game open. Marcus Sharkey and Derek Koronkiewicz swung the big bats with 3 hits each while Jacob Bloch added a pair of safeties.

Visiting Mid County took a 1-0 second inning lead as Eddy Becerra singled and scored following a couple of errors.

Peshtigo got even in its half of the frame on just one hit. Koronkiewicz singled and was joined on the sacks by Quigley, who was hit by a pitch. Trying to be a little bit too aggressive on the basepaths, Koronkiewicz was thrown out at third base following a passed ball. It didn’t matter as Quigley eventually crossed the plate on a sac fly by Marcus Behnke.

Sending 9 batters to the plate in the third frame, Peshtigo erupted for 5 runs to go up 6-1. Two errors, two walks, a hit batsman along with a double by Sharkey and singles off the bats of Koronkiewicz and Quigley keyed the rally.

Koronkiewicz singled and scored in the fourth following a hit by Bloch before Peshtigo sealed the win with 2 insurance runs in the fifth. Nick Sparks and Trevor Bero were hit by pitches before Sharkey ripped a two-run double down the left field line.

Borkovec earned the mound win with 6 innings of 2 hit and 2 run ball, fanning 5 while walking one. Southpaw Danny Payne pitched the 7th inning, walking 4 while giving up one run.

Peshtigo Loses Lead,

Game To Shockers 5-3

Taking a 3-0 lead into the sixth inning, Peshtigo couldn’t hang on and fell to the host Green Bay Shockers Sunday 5-3.

Sharkey continued his hot hitting with a leadoff single in the third then motored around the bases on a single by Borkovec, walk to Bloch while Quigley was hit by a pitch for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth inning, Nick Sparks drew a free pass to get things started and scored on a single by Sharkey. A couple of passed balls allowed Sharkey to cross the plate to put Peshtigo on top 3-0.

Unfortunately the score didn’t stay that way. After coming up empty against Peshtigo starter Zack Pickl for 5 innings, the Shockers got to reliever Borkovec for 5 runs in the sixth to earn the win.

The southpaw Pickl fanned 5 and walked 6 during his mound stint while Borkovec struggled. Borkovec saw the first 4 batters he faced reach base on two walks, a single by Hunter Cook and an error. After a sac fly, winning pitcher Cody Carnadine unloaded a run scoring single.
