Tough Week For Peshtigo Legion; Sport 1-12 Mark

Suffering a trio of losses on the baseball diamonds, the Peshtigo Legion team saw its season mark dip to 1-12 overall and 0-8 in the North Division after coming up short to DePere 17-U by a 12-2 score, Marinette 4-1 and Menominee 8-5.

With the Legion campaign starting to wind down, Peshtigo will travel to DePere Wednesday, White Lake Thursday before entertaining Oconto Falls on July 17.

Few Hits In 12-2

Loss To DePere

Mustering up just 5 hits, Peshtigo was no match for host DePere 17-U Tuesday 12-2. The local Legion gang managed a 1-0 first inning lead as Andrew Majewski walked, stole second and raced home on the first of 2 hits by losing pitcher Trevor Bero.

That was the good news for Peshtigo. The bad came in the bottom of the first inning as DePere jammed the plate for 8 runs on five hits and never looked back. DePere added two runs in the second inning before capping the lopsided victory with 2 more runs in the fourth.

Zack Pickle scored Peshtigo’s second run of the game in the fifth inning. Pickle walked to open the frame, moved to second on a fielder’s choice before heading home on a single by Bero. Marcus Sharkey was hit by a pitch while Derek Koronkiewicz walked. The game ended as Tom Quigley popped up to the catcher and Jacob Bloch was called out on strikes.

The 5th inning base knock by Bero came from the left side of the plate after lashing a single from the right side in the first inning.

Bero was roughed up for 12 runs on 8 hits with 4 walks and one strikeout.

Peshtigo Gives Marinette

A Battle Before Falling 4-1

After losing to Marinette via the run rule on June 25, Peshtigo made sure things were different in round two. Peshtigo gave the division leading Marinette club all it could handle before losing 4-1 Wednesday.

Peshtigo starter Jordan Berth gave up 4 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings before giving way to Zach Neumann for the final two frames. The pair ended up fanning 6 and walking 5.

After a trio of scoreless innings, Marinette pushed across two runs each in the fourth and fifth frames.

In the fourth inning, Scott Eldredge lashed a leadoff single but was erased at second base on a fielder’s choice. With Nate Kallestad at first, Kelly singled and Jake McMahon walked. Kallestad raced home on a passed ball before Ty Bebo ripped a RBI double. Berth escaped further damage by whiffing Cody Tessmer and Luke Johnson.

Marinette’s lead grew to 4-0 in the fifth. Derek Klegin singled to get things rolling and motored to second base on a bunt by Beau DeLaet. Klegin didn’t last at second base very long as Eldredge followed with a two-run homer to left field.

Peshtigo avoided the shutout with a run in the sixth. Marcus Sharkey singled with one out, stole second and scooted home on a two-out single off the bat of Brendon Thomas.

With two outs in the 7th Peshtigo tried to threaten as James Brabant walked and Majewski singled.

Austin Wright earned the mound win for Marinette scattering 3 hits over 5 innings and recording 8 strikeouts. Eldredge added two innings of 3 hit and one run ball.

Peshtigo Falls Behind

Early In 8-5 Loss At

Menominee Tuesday

Facing a 7-0 deficit after three innings, Peshtigo couldn’t recover in suffering an 8-5 loss at Menominee Tuesday in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. Game two was washed away by Mother Nature and will be made up in Peshtigo next week.

The host Red Wave (9-10, 3-3) scored 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take control. Ryan Woods collecting an infield single and scored on a single by winning pitcher Derek Reiswitz. With the bases loaded, Mason Kewley singled and Mike Melchoir drew a walk for a 3-0 spread.

Menominee was back in the scoring mode in the third inning on hits by Kewley, Caleb Kleiman, Jaden Kleinke (2-run double) and two wild pitches.

Peshtigo closed the gap to 7-2 in the fourth when Zack Pickle walked and raced home as Tom Quigley unloaded a double. Quigley later scored on an error.

Landen Maccoux launched a solo homer for Menominee in the bottom of the fourth before Peshtigo added 2 runs in the sixth and one in the seventh.

Zack Neumann and Andrew Majewski singled in the sixth and scored on a double by Trevor Bero.

Peshtigo’s final run saw Pickle walk and score on an error.

Jordan Berth was tagged with the loss giving up 8 runs on 7 hits with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts.

Reiswitz went the distance for Menominee, scattering 7 hits with 3 walks and 4 whiffs.
