Peshtigo Gets $139,997 For Energy Saving Efforts

Issue Date: July 24, 2013

The energy saving efforts of the City of Peshtigo reaped a $139,997 check presented at a meeting Wednesday, July 17. It was presented by Focus on Energy, Wisconsin’s statewide program for energy efficiency and renewable energy, along with Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (WPS). The incentive check followed the completion of a boiler upgrade at City Hall, and Fine Bubble Aerator at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The city’s energy saving effort will save nearly $81,000 annually in energy costs.

The City of Peshtigo has a long standing history of working with Focus on Energy on projects, such as the upgraded lighting system at City Hall. Beyond completing standardized projects, the city is taking advantage of special Focus on Energy programs like the WPS Schools and Government Program, a current offer that promotes innovative energy reduction through advanced efficiency equipment retrofits. Additionally, Peshtigo was a recipient of a competitive $25,000 grant that was offered by WPS for energy efficiency projects.

By completing these projects, the City of Peshtigo will save more than 128 Demand kW, 1,148,161 kilowatt-hours of electricity, and 1,197 Therms - enough energy to power 117 homes for one year.

In these tight economic times, anything the city can do to save taxpayer dollars is very important, said Allan Krizenesky, Mayor for the City of Peshtigo As a city, we could not carry out these projects without the help, knowledge and assistance of Focus on Energy. An added benefit is that these projects will also conserve natural resources and preserve the environment in the long run.

Not only do these upgrades save energy and money, but they’re also environmentally friendly. The annual environmental benefits are equivalent to offsetting 2,277 barrels of oil from being burned and removing 186 cars off the road - eliminating more than 1,956,765 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) from being released into the atmosphere.

Focus on Energy can help residents across the state identify and evaluate energy-saving opportunities in their homes and businesses, provide specific recommendations, develop energy management plans, and arrange technical training opportunities about energy conservation. For more information, call 800.762.7077 or visit focusonenergy.com.

Peshtigo is historically known as The City Rebuilt from Ashes from the Great Peshtigo Fire on October 8th, 1871. The City of Peshtigo was incorporated in 1903, and currently has a population of 3,510. Peshtigo is a great place to start or expand a business as it has developed a 241 acre industrial park to accommodate growth. Natural beauty from the Peshtigo River that runs through the heart of the city provides scenic luxury. Festivals as well as hunting and fishing provide residents with abundant outdoor experiences.

Wisconsin Public Service serves more than 440,000 electric customers and more than 315,000 natural gas customers in northeast and central Wisconsin and an adjacent portion of Upper Michigan.

Focus on Energy is Wisconsin utilities’ statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program funded by the state’s investor-owned energy utilities and participating municipal and electric cooperative utilities. Focus on Energy works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Focus on Energy information, resources and financial incentives help to implement projects that otherwise would not be completed. Its efforts help Wisconsin residents and businesses manage rising energy costs, promote in-state economic development, protect the environment and control Wisconsin’s growing demand for electricity and natural gas. For more information call 800-762-7077.
