Mae M. (La Chapelle) Racine
Mae M. (La Chapelle) Racine, 96, of Oconto, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 18th at Woodland Village in Oconto.
Born Aug. 2, 1917, in Ontonagon, Mi., to the late Eldric and Gertrude (Hamilton) La Chapelle, she married John A. Van Rossum in 1936, and he preceded her in death in 1966. She married Roland "Red" McDowell in 1968 and he died in 1983. In 1987 she married Russell F. Racine and he died in 1994.
She worked for many years as a sales clerk and seamstress for Aronson's Men and Boys Wear in Oconto, taught Sunday School at the First American Lutheran Church and was an election day poll worker for the City of Oconto.
She is survived by a son, Ted (Donna) Van Rossum, Suamico; two stepsons, John (Phyllis) McDowell, Athelstane and Bob (Dorothy) McDowell, Gillett; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Leah (Karl) Kinsch; an infant brother, Eugene La Chapelle; a daughter, Carol (Van Rossum) Sucharda and a son-in-law, Rodney F. Sucharda.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Oconto Gospel Chapel, Oconto on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. Rev. Peter Dorn will officiate.
The Gallagher Funeral Home of Oconto is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Oconto Gospel Chapel.
