Peshtigo Netters Stay Within Striking Distance Of Coleman

Registering wins over Niagara and Lena, the Peshtigo Bulldogs remained within striking distance of first place and unbeaten Coleman (4-0) in the M-O Conference volleyball circuit. Peshtigo (3-1) was forced to go 5 games against Niagara Thursday before prevailing 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16 and 15-6. Things were a little easier Tuesday in a 3-game sweep of Lena.

The talented Cougars remain the only unbeaten team in the league following victories over Suring and Crivitz. Coleman topped the Eagles Thursday 25-12, 25-16, 22-25 and 25-16 while cruising past Crivitz Tuesday 25-17, 25-14 and 25-14.

The Cougars will look to keep their hold on the conference lead with a triangular Thursday,September 12 at Niagara followed by a trip to STAA on Tuesday, September 17.

Peshtigo Slips Past

Niagara In Five Games


The Bulldogs dug in after a 20-25 defeat in the opening game against the Badgers Thursday to take the victory in the M-O matchup 20-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-16, 15-6.

"The Peshtigo/Niagara matchup is always like this-usually five games and right to the wire," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "I was very pleased with our play. We transitioned well and we were able to get our setters nice passes so they could set up our hitters."

Kostreva noted that her team has been working on its passing in recent practices and it clearly paid off as the home team Bulldogs needed every bit of fundamental skill they have working for them in the marathon match.

The victorious Bulldogs got a pretty big night out of Carly Dietrich, who came up with 20 kills, 16 digs and a pair of aces. Nicole Motkowski turned in 20 assists, 35 digs two blocks, eight kills and three aces; Teja Tonn had 19 digs, a block, 14 kills and an ace while Taylor Sodini tallied 19 assists and nine digs."

"The only negative I have is that we missed 18 serves," said Kostreva of her squad's effort against Niagara. "That means we gave them 18 free points- a real big no-no."

Leading the way for Niagara was Shelby Borchardt, who came up with 57 digs, four assists and four kills over the five games played.

Mackenzie Gregg had eight kills, a block, two digs and two assists; Brooklyn Wolosyn had 17 digs, seven kills and a block while Abbey Bagnieschi chipped in 27 assists, seven digs and a kill.

STAA In Three


The Wildcats picked up an M-O win with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-16 thumping of STAA in Lena Thursday. Melissa Bushmaker got seven kills, four blocks, an assist , three aces and a dig; Hailey Salter had 11 assists, two digs, an ace and a kill while teammate Nikki Saldana tallied a kill, eight assists and three aces.

Outlasts Crivitz

The Rangers were on the winning end of a five-game, see-saw battle with Crivitz Thursday, coming away with the 21-25, 25-15, 21-25, 25-17, 15-13 victory in conference play.

Kaylor DeLaet turned in a match-high 19 assists to go along with her two kills and a block; Lauren Edlbeck was the day's top kill scorer with 12 to accompany her four aces while Crysta Clark turned in eight aces, two kills, a block and eight assists.

For Crivitz, Jen Kempka was busy dishing 15 assists, six aces, five digs and a kill. Vikki Neuman had seven kills, five digs and two aces while Samara Olson had eight digs, a block and four kills.



Coleman Takes Down

Suring In Four Games


Makenzie Sadowski had a big night in Suring Thursday as she put together a 22 kill, six block, six dig, three ace performance and the Coleman Cougars defeated the Eagles in four games 25-12, 25-16, 22-25, 25-16.

Sadowski was set up at the net thanks largely to Lindsey Kerr's 40 assists on the evening. Kerr also had eight digs, two blocks, two kills and an ace; Abby Bieber turned in 11 kills and 13 digs while teammate Sammy Schaal had an ace, three kills, a block, five assists and 10 digs.

For Suring, Kelsey School assisted nine times and picked up eight digs and an ace. Jacquelyn Lenz picked up an assist and 11 digs while Brooke Gauthier had eight digs, an assist and three kills.

Over Wolverines


The Coleman volleyball team notched an easy M-O victory Tuesday, dispatching the Wolverines in three games, 25-17, 25-14, 25-14.

Makenzie Sadowski continues to wreak havoc for opposing defenses in the conference and her latest effort saw the Coleman senior finish with five aces, seven kills, two blocks, an assist and four digs. Abby Bieber picked up 10 kills to lead all players in that category. She also turned in two aces, a block, an assist and three digs. Lindsey Kerr led the field with 23 assists, in addition to two digs, two kills and an ace while teammate Brooke Pashak had seven aces, five kills, an assist and three digs.

Crivitz got 11 assists from Jen Kempka, who also had a kill, three digs and an ace. Vikki Neumann had eight kills, a block and a pair of digs and Samara Olson had four digs and two kills.

On Lena Wildcats


Peshtigo got 11 digs, 11 assists, three kills and two aces as they made quick work of the home team Wildcats on Tuesday, taking the 25-18, 25-7, 25-17 victory.

"The girls controlled the match all night," said Peshtigo head coach Lynn Tonn-Kostreva. "They're really beginning to play as a team."

Carly Dietrich served up three aces, bagged four kills and had 11 digs; Maizie Reif had eight digs, three kills and an ace while Teja Tonn notched three digs, five kills and an ace.

Lena was paced by Hailey Salter's two aces, three digs, five assists, a block and a kill; Nikki Saldana had five assists and a dig; Kayla VanLanen turned in two kills four digs and an ace while teammate Melissa Bushmaker notched six kills, two digs, two aces and a block.

Wausaukee Rolls

Past Cavalettes


The Rangers didn't have much trouble with STAA on Tuesday evening as they trounced the Cavalettes in three straight in front of their home crowd, 25-11, 25-9, 25-16.

Kaylor DeLaet turned in 11 assists and four aces in the evening's quick session. Crysta Clark had eight aces and an assist while Lauren Edlbeck finished with three aces, six kills and an assist. Alyssa Ferrington added six aces.

For STAA, Riley Schultz bagged six kills while Alyssa Hornick had a kill, a dig, three assists and an ace.



Niagara Knocks

Off Gillett Netters


The Badgers got a competitive first game out of Gillett on Tuesday, with Niagara getting the best of the opener 25-22, before taking the next two 25-19 and 25-11.

Shelby Borchardt clocked 29 digs and two kills in the victory while Brooklyn Wolosyn had four kills, a dig and nine assists.

For Gillett, Kara Brennan had five kills, two aces; Marissa Sherman added four kills, four assists and nine digs; Taylor Kohls turned in three kills and Myranda Pratsch chipped in with eight digs.

Rangers Finish Tied For

Second At Algoma Meet


The Wausaukee volleyball team went 4-4 during Saturday's Algoma Invite, picking up a pair of games against M-O foe Gillett for a 25-23, 25-13 victory before wading into non-conference waters where things got a little trickier.

The host team Algoma Wolves, who went 8-0 on the day to take top honors in the tourney, defeated Wausaukee 25-14, 25-15.

The Rangers then dropped a match against Two Rivers 16-25, 18-25 before beating Tri County 25-20, 25-21.

Lauren Edlbeck hammered out 22 kills, two blocks, four aces and five assists for Wausaukee in the tournament while teammate Kaylor DeLaet turned in 32 assists, a block, three kills and three aces. Crysta Clark had six aces, two kills and nine assists to go along with 18 kills and one assist from Ana Baca.
